I have been tutoring both language and other subjects for 20 years (Since 1993). I am certified EC-4 Bilingual for all subjects and Grades 4-8 in Math, Reading, Writing, Language Arts and Social Studies. I am also certified K-12 Spanish. I received my Masters in Education from Texas State in 2012.
I have been a classroom teacher for 4 years - From 2nd grade thru adults.
I love teaching concepts - from Math to History. Most of the students I have met relate well to the way I communicate. I have equal success with boys as well as girls.
I use both Phonics and Whole Language approaches to reading- both have a place. I have found each student is different and responds differently to different techniques.
I am not a stickler for details ... I try and make people think, to use their whole brain, and to enjoy it. Of course there is a lot of work involved, but learning should be fun!
I am patient, and have a lot of personal, as well as professional experience with different types of learners and special needs students.
Every relationship is unique and like friendships, rely on chemistry. I always encourage people who are looking for a long (or short) term tutor, to shop around until you find one that is right for you!
I look forward to working with you.

John did a great job with my son's reading session. He connected with him prior to starting right into a learning lesson. John gave him some good tips that he can start using right away. Thanks.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
