About Laura

My love of teaching comes from a passion for the applied sciences. I love seeing the look of understanding on my students' faces when a seemingly incomprehensible topic suddenly makes sense. I have experience tutoring in Chemistry, Elementary Math, and Algebra through a teaching assistant position at Texas Woman's University.

As I graduated with high honors this past December, I understand the values of hard work and diligence and have had great success instilling comprehension and application of Chemistry to my students; I have had the immense pleasure of observing students realize their own potentials and overcome obstacles to achieve their goals and improve.

I have had to take extensive math courses while pursuing my degrees and am well-versed in Algebra. I have explained and taught mathematical skills to the students at Texas Woman's University (as Chemistry and Math are closely linked).

I have experience being a Teaching Assistant through the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry for Texas Woman's University for multiple years. I have taught laboratory classes and tutored for Introduction to General Chemistry, General Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, Quantitative Chemical Analysis, and Physical Chemistry. When I took the ACT, I scored a perfect score and am more than capable to help with ACT Prep.

I studied to become a RN and, in the process, have taken and made A's in Biology, Biochemistry, Anatomy and Physiology, Microbiology, and Pathophysiology. I use a variety of teaching methods and have had great success explaining biological concepts and applications to my students.

In order to challenge (yet not overwhelm) my students, I assign personalized homework for each student after the session as well as periodical quizzes designed to test comprehension and retention of material as well as to give me an opportunity to assess how the student is progressing.

I am more than willing to either travel for sessions or have sessions online. My base rate is $45/hr for sessions and I offer discounted rates for group sessions within the same family.

I look forward to hearing from you and helping you achieve success in your academic endeavors!

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
