I have 32 years of teaching experience. I have taught Spanish to Kindergarten through adult levels. I have always taught, whether whole class groups or single students, as this is very fulfilling work for me, and what I am best at. It's important for me to see the light of understanding dawn on the faces of my students. I began with middle and high school, and then for 22 years I taught elementary school. Most recently, I have been teaching elementary Spanish part-time at an Episcopal School. Although English was my first language, my background in a Spanish-speaking community in New Mexico helped me gain near-native fluency. (Native speakers on the phone regularly think I am a native speaker.) I am also an excellent teacher of the core elementary subjects, in particular English grammar and reading. Having done this as a teacher of ESL Bilingual Education from the most basic phonics through ninth grade English grammar, reading, and writing.
I earned my degrees at UTEP, with additional time at West Texas A&M. I graduated Magna Cum Laude with a perfect record in both Spanish and Education courses. I have certifications in Spanish, Biology, ESL, Early Chilshood, and Bilingual Education.

Anne takes the time to know you. She teaches you in a way that YOU will learn. I felt very comfortable and cannot wait to continue with her. Her energy is contagious and she makes learning fun.
Anne was excellent. My daughter needed to review material at the last minute for a final that was 4 days away. She fit us into her schedule at the last minute and met with her twice. My daughter did very well on the final. We are planning to hire Anne to tutor her this summer and next year for this subject. We would highly recommend her to tutor a Middle School Student.
My son did so well with Mrs Anne. He hates Spanish and still got an A. She is patient, accommodating and very fun to work with. I recommend her all heartedly.
I am going to Cuba and hired Anne to tutor me in basic Spanish to get me ready for my trip. She went the extra mile by researching Cuban foods, animals, and other situations where I could use my Spanish. I have enjoyed getting to know her and feel very confident that I will be able to have an incredible trip due to her help with my Spanish!
I had my first lesson with Anne and it went really well. She is very knowledgeable and makes sure you understand the material. I was really impressed.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I am certified to teach all subjects in grades Pre-K through 6. I have even taught them in both English and Spanish, for twenty years. I taught in two top-rated schools. I often tutored students of different grades in reading, math, and state test preparation.
I have over thirty years of teaching experience, 25 of it with elementary students. I am good at using objects and games to teach math concepts. I have always worked with individuals and small groups after school and in the summers. I am very patient and flexible.

I have an Early childhood certification, plus elementary, with fifteen years teaching Kindergarten. I taught phonics every day in TWO languages. My students, who were all from low-income families, excelled in reading by the end of the year. I also have plenty of experience in other grade levels.
As a language teacher in many grades for many years, I am very efficient and quite perfect in proofreading. I can also offer other polishing and editing suggestions. I have done this very successfully in two languages for 30 years.
In the course of my work on two master's degrees, I have written many papers of my own. All of them received the grade of A.
I am a certified elementary teacher with an ESL endorsement. This means I know how to teach English reading to foreigners as well as regular English speakers. I taught Kindergarten for 16 years (until my knees gave out), and have all the necessary skills. I have the patience required to work with a child who has difficulties. The STAAR test is a test of general elementary subjects and skills. I am a certified Texas elementary teacher. For years, I taught elementary school and also helped out with after-school tutoring geared towards these state tests. (Texas predecessors to the STAAR were TAKS, TAAS, and TABS.) My own sons took these tests and won medals for outstanding performance.
Study skills are something that every Elementary teacher learns to teach, while in the process of taking their teaching methodology classes. I am a certified Elementary teacher in TWO languages. I made top scores in my certification exams. I have taught both elementary and secondary school for over thirty years. I have led numerous weekly small group study skills sessions for ten years. I have seen my personal reading tutoring students go from not comprehending, to learning how to teach themselves new words and expressions. I teach them how to use context clues, roots of words, and visual/auditory cues to help themselves read and think. I also teach them strategies that can help them with exams.
I have several teaching certifications, among them ESL/ESOL. This means that I am very good at teaching English as a second language. Although English is my own first language, I also have the perspective an outsider would have toward English. It makes me very good at explaining how and why the language works as it does.
When it comes to vocabulary, expression, and structure, have no fear! I come from a large family of authors, publishers, and English teachers. Having a book or movie discussion with a group of us is like talking to Dickens, Shakespeare, and possibly even Cervantes!
