Academics: I have 2 degrees from the University of Texas at Austin- a B.S. in Geology and a B.A. in Italian Language and Literature. During my undergraduate education, I spent one year abroad, running an independent research project at Flinders University in Adelaide, South Australia. I have also completed my M.S. in Geology at the University of Alabama, where I was a Teaching Assistant and Lab Instructor for multiple university courses.

Teaching Experience: As a university level teaching assistant, I gained experience in lecturing and creating/running/grading labs. I learned how to make complex material accessible and relatable to every student (not just science majors!). I held one-on-one/small group review sessions for my students weekly and learned how to tailor information to an individual's needs, learning style, and interests.

Tutoring Experience: While in high school, I began tutoring elementary/middle school students. During my undergrad education, I was a regular tutor for 3+ families for 4+ years where I helped their children (ages 6-18) on everything from school assignments to standardized test prep. My senior year in undergrad, I began tutoring other college students in science, foreign language, and humanities classes. Within the past 6 months, I have tutored 70+ hours online through Wyzant and elsewhere.

My Approach: As a recent student and as a recent instructor, I am acutely aware of the stress, anxiety, and challenges that students face. I hope to help my students overcome these difficulties by maintaining a casual, low pressure atmosphere where we can discuss, analyze, and truly understand the subject material.

Why me?: I know what it takes to be successful in a university level class because of my experience as a undergrad/graduate student and as an instructor. If you want a tutor that will identify your gaps in understanding, help you according to how you best learn, and talk *with* you rather than *at* you, then I think I may be the tutor for you.

I have a B.A. in Italian, so that means I am fluent in speaking/reading/writing/listening, and I also have cultural/historical/literary knowledge of Italian as well. I have been tutoring Introductory Italian and Intermediate Italian for 4+ years. Most recently, I have been able to tutor the same students via Wyzant with weekly sessions spanning a time frame of 2 semesters. I am able to help with homework, assignments, essays, test prep, projects, speeches, presentation, & everything in between. Some specialty courses I've taken include History of the Italian Mafia, Italian History & Society, Life & Works of Dante Alighieri, Intro to Italian Cinema, Intro to Italian Literature & more.

Geography,

Geography

I have experience with Geography courses including Human Geography, Northern Lands & Cultures, Environmental Geomorphology, Geography of Europe, the IB course Environmental Systems & Societies, & more. I love to teach/help/discuss specifically about how the environment effects people, and how people effect the environment. I have technical knowledge from a geologic/climate science background, but as a history nerd, I am also knowledgable about how these aspects have geopolitical/societal impact.

Great person.

Geology and interpersonal skills are off the chart. Alaina took the time to understand exactly what I need and took the time to help me handle it. She is patient Knowledgeable, and kind all that comes through virtually! She also was willing to work out scheduling conflicts.
