B.A. Texas State Univ. (Spanish)
Texas State University (Master's)
University of Texas in Austin (PhD incomplete) (Graduate Coursework)
My name is Lane, and I grew up in San Juan, Puerto Rico where I learned Spanish at an early age, since my parents enrolled my sister and I in Spanish public schools from the 3rd-9th grades. I've been teaching Spanish at all levels (college, high school, and junior high) for approximately 33 years. I am a published poet of bilingual poetry-- "El arco del prisma" @amazon.com, and presently, I am writing a novel "Solitary Impressions", which adheres to the flow of consciousness genre.
My wife and I travel extensively and frequently to countries like Mexico, Panama, Costa Rica, Portugal, and Spain. Before marrying, I traveled to France where I studied French for six months, and I also had the opportunity over the years to visit and spend time in Greece, Germany, Morocco, Peru, Chile, Dominican Republic, Haiti, the U.S. Virgin Islands, Italy, Belgium, and other countries. I am currently starting my own business as a tutor, cultural consultant to Latin America, Spain, and Europe. Furthermore, I am becoming licensed as a court interpreter in English and Spanish.
Basically, I am the best in the business because my lessons are relevant to the age of the student, and I have a plethora of materials to share with them. I have also created my own videos for teaching, and I am an expert at getting students not only to understand Spanish and French grammar, but also at encouraging them to converse in the target language beginning on the very first session. Learners will be actively engaged with me as a tutor, and I will motivate them to become second language learners for life.
An important component of studying a second language is for personal enrichment and growth and to become interested in travelling and immersing oneself in a divergent culture. My goal is to infuse my students with a love for learning Spanish or French along with developing a comprehension of cultural nuances that may vary from country to country. These may include the diverse vernacular and vocabulary words, which are particular to certain regions of a country, like Mexico, for example, but that also include variations of words from country to country in the Hispanic world.
My broad experience travelling overseas permits me to create lessons that are very relevant to living and becoming aware of our global community with all of its complexities, one that is simplified by reaching out to others in their native language. The simple, but daunting act of engaging people of a diverse culture from our own, gives one the acumen to show a compassionate and caring attitude towards them, which opens the door for business opportunities beneficial to both parties, political understanding, and many other benefits. However, of utmost importance, one establishes a connection with others that touches the soul and is humbling because one realizes the need to fully espouse those, who speak a different language and observe different customs. This type of communion allows people to establish close relationships with one another; thus, participate together in the worldly human experience.
Moreover, I have a college minor in Biology and as a graduate student who worked on a PhD, which is not complete, I love to read and have interests in History and English literature. I also have experience teaching high school and junior high English and ESL (English as a Second Language) at the college level as well.
Please consider contacting me by email here at WyzAnt if you want to succeed in learning Spanish, French, Science, History, or English. I would like to reiterate and emphasize that I am a very good tutor, and you will not regret hiring me. Again, I am very creative, fun, engaging, and highly motivated to help you excel in becoming a life-long learner of Spanish or French, primarily, but I am also interested in sharing my knowledge of the subjects formerly mentioned so that you can become more proficient in these areas. The choice is always yours, of course, and our desire as tutors is that you find the right person to bridge your success as a student with your personal and future academic goals. Rest assured, though, that if you decide to hire me, you will not be disappointed with the quality instruction I can offer you! In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
