As a work-from-home mother of two, I can understand the frustrations that one experiences when you don't grasp the concept being covered. I am patient and work with the student to find the right "switch" for the individual that turns on the light of understanding.
My background in tutoring goes back to my days as a fourth grade elementary student. I was asked by the educators to assist the first and second grade students in their math studies. I have never forgotten the honor I felt at being handed such an important task as passing on knowledge to others. I have tutored in math across many grade levels including collegiate-level calculus. Although math has always been my passion, I have worked in business as an Executive Assistant for 18+ years. Through my work experience I have gained strength in numerous software applications. These strengths have been called upon to instruct others in the use of these programs. Prior to relocating due to my husband's employment, I was in my third year of studies in Aerospace Engineering. My time spent at Texas A&M taught me a lot about study skills which I like to pass on to my students.
I enjoy helping others find the joy in learning that I have. I can communicate well across different age levels and have daily practice as my children are six and nineteen. I feel I offer a different view on education since I have experienced the important role it plays in our lives. I also thank my mother, who as an educator, taught me how to listen as well as teach. Kate is a very knowledgeable and patient tutor who helped me tremendously with my statistics class. Kate helped me with every assignment without any difficulty. She was easy to get ahold of and willing to accommodate to any situation. Her personality made her easy to work with and she never made me feel inadequate. Math is not my subject and I have struggled with math for many years, but Kate was able to help me with my struggle and I did very well in that class. If it were not for Kate's help, I am not sure that I would have done so well in statistics. Many of my friends are taking or going to be taking statistics, they have all asked for her name. The help received from her was definitely worth the stress relief.
Katie is very patient, smart and is great at working with my teenage daughter for chemistry. She has always been very accommodating when my daughter needs a last minute session. Katie is great at explaining things in a way my daughter can understand. Thanks Katie!
I do not recommend this tutor for accounting. I did better by myself; she tutored me for lessons and exams and all of the answers were incorrect. I was so upset. The amount of money that I paid I lost it. If you want to do good she would not be a great person to choose. When I contacted her to say that most of the answers were incorrect she said "I'm sorry I couldn't be of more assistance." That upset me more because all she had to do was say she didn't know the answers. This was my first bad experience with WyzAnt; but when you are paying $40.00 for a tutor you don't expect to get failing grades. A horrible experience.
This student is understandably distressed with her poor test results. We had two 2.5-hour tutoring sessions, and I was not aware of any dissatisfaction on her part at the time of either meeting. She furnished a study guide, and we looked up the answers in her textbook for those areas she wanted to cover. She expressed her frustration to me only after her discovery of her test results two days after our final tutoring session. I believe I fulfilled my role in assisting her to analyze the questions and locate the information. I realize she is anguished and wish the outcome had been more successful. However, I cannot guarantee the outcome of a grade on an exam or course. This person is my first and only unhappy accounting student.
Choose Katy! Thinking back on the beginning of my semester, I really felt defeated. Signing up with WyzAnt with Katy as my tutor was the best thing I could have done. She is amazingly patient and knows exactly what she is doing. Katy's schedule was flexible and she was easy to contact. I have referred her to several of my friends. I passed my Corporate Finance Class and I am so grateful to Katy. You will not be disappointed if you choose Katy!
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I tutor math at all levels up through College level calculus. I have been working with students in math since 1984. Algebra is a favorite of mine and one math that tends to leave a lot of students confused. I like to work with the student to find the path through the confusion to understanding.
My grandmothers taught me to cook when I was big enough to be around the stove. I enjoy cooking and coming up with new recipes. Though I am not a professional that was taught in a culinary school, I have the knowledge of generations of cooks that know how to take separate ingredients and make a dish that will a family would love to eat. I have taught friends and family how to cook with great results. I have been cooking for about 25 years and can think of nothing better than to share basic cooking skills with others.
I have worked with MS Excel for more than 17 years in corporate and educational settings. I have experienced first hand the changes and worked with others to guide them to become proficient users of this wonderful software. I have taken company guided courses to become a master user and would love to share my knowledge to help you improve your skills and understanding.
I have used Microsoft Outlook for the majority of the 16+ years I have worked in business. I use it for my home-based virtual business solutions company. I am used to working with meeting scheduling, calendar management and contact management through Outlook for both the main user and setting it up for authorized users to access the main user's information. I use the tasks to provide for time-management and deadline reminders. I have worked with it through an Exchange server to provide remote access and mobile device syncing. I am used to walking through the set-up on phones, laptops and desktops. I am proficient in using flags, color coding and sorting features to assist in prioritizing incoming emails. I have set up auto archiving and the creation/use of folders to ease data retrieval.
I have been painting for more than 20 years. I enjoyed training in watercolor, acrylic, and oils as well as other mediums for sketches. I have over 10 years of education in art and love to spread the passion of art. I also paint with dyes and fiber for mixed media.
I have been sewing since I was 12. My grandmother taught me and I completed my first outfit at 12 and have been hooked ever since. I can take patterns and adjust them to fit or take parts of multiple patterns and work them together into a custom design. I have been retained to make custom outfits. I have the ability to sew by hand or machine and easily move from clothing to quilting and other projects. Sewing takes time to learn the basics and practice to refine your skills.
I played volleyball from 6th grade through my senior year. I attended a number of volleyball camps during that time. I played some in leagues since graduating. I have coached girls individually and donated my time to coach in a community league. My main position during my playtime was setter. This takes a leader as you need to know the abilities of all of the team members so that you can help coordinate based on the strengths that are currently on the court. A setter is responsible for placing the ball in the area for the next team member to get a hit/spike and then be immediately prepared to back up the hitter in case of a block. All roles on the team are vital to the success of the team and thus ever member needs to know how to use their strengths to compliment the others. Once that is achieved then the team begins to work as one unit instead of individuals. I love working with others to improve and refine their skills to become the best team player they can be.
