Bachelor in elementary education (Graduate Coursework)
Hi! I have taught for 25 years, grades 1-5. Most of my years teaching was at third grade, self contained. Most recently, the last 5 years, have been at 5th grade. I have taught Language Arts/Reading and this year I am teaching math. What a wonderful challenge for me as well as my students!
I have had to learn and teach a variety of concepts and methods including hands on, manipulatives, technology and real life situations. After all, all kids learn differently. It has been a wonderful experience and I can't see me doing anything but teaching. My number one goal is make sure I can to get each child to feel confident, successful and reach their full potential.
I am willing to travel. I can meet you at your home, or we can meet at a public place in the area. We can work that out at a later time. I look forward to hearing from you! Hi! I have been teaching for 25 years, grades 1-5. About 20 of those years have been self-contained, grades 1-4. The last 5 years, I have taught 5th grade, 4 of which have been focused on Language Arts and the last has been math. Included in the teaching, I have also been responsible for tutoring those that need more help.
The last two years, I have been teaching fifth-grade math based on the TEKS. Previously, I have taught fourth-grade math and I have also taught grades one through three for 19 years. I create lessons and activities geared to what I am teaching. I check for mastery, reteach, tutor, and creating modified lessons.
I have taught handwriting, most specifically D'Nealian, every year. The most critical years are at first and second grade. It is important for the students to write the letters correctly and to understand why the letters need to be written correctly. It makes it so much easier to begin cursive. Practice makes perfect!
I have been teaching in Texas my whole teaching career. I have taught third grade through fifth grade the last 20 years so I have had to deal with the testing every year. I have had lots of trainings and inservices that help me understand the STAAR tests more completely. My students have always placed above the district level.
I have been teaching TAKS, STAAR for most of my teaching career... third grade through fifth grade. First, I have had to teach my students the content. Next, I have had to teach test taking skills, just in case something was not known. Students need to learn to narrow the answer choices down.
