About Mark

Welcome to my tutoring profile. During the past 25 years, I've tutored a combination of college, high school, and middle school students, primarily in math classes. The specific courses and I've tutored, as well as scored very high in as a student, include the following: Algebra, Finite Math, Business Calculus, Accounting, Economics, and Statistics. Over 200 students have benefited from my assistance with their studies.

For those students whom I tutor onsite, I work with two sets of easels and marker boards. I am able to take these to most tutoring locations. This allows me to communicate full ideas, along with providing visible information to complete longer, more complex problems, illustrations, etc.

Additionally, I've had various certification years as a Certified QuickBooks ProAdvisor. During that time, I taught several classes for students desiring to re-shift their work force focus. Most, but not all, of those students whom I have tutored, have been students studying business, criminal justice, or nursing.

My approach is different, in that I don't repeat the same mantra that people have already heard from their instructor. I look for unique and high-impact ways to communicate, so that I haven't just said something, but so that people walk away with a keen understanding.

I have worked as a tutor, a tax accountant, support technician, technical writer, technical trainer, network administrator, mathematician, and inventor in the area of computer security.

Tutoring has been for students in prestigious colleges and universities, junior (community) colleges, both undergraduate and graduate, along with junior high (middle school) and high school students.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

ACT Math

I begin by making certain that a good solid math foundation is there; as time permits. Make certain to fill in gaps as needed. Then, work on sample problems for the test itself. Not only from the standpoint of how to solve problems, but also what they're looking for in the way that one approaches answering the questions.

Algebra 1

Over 25 years of successfully tutoring Algebra. Have helped students to either better prepare, or even recover from a rough start.

Algebra 2

I have taught Algebra II, along with related mathematics areas, for over 25 years. I go through the building blocks that are necessary to understanding the mathematics areas, along with specific testing examples, as available.

Economics

Degree in International Economics/Finance, plus more than 25 years of tutoring both undergraduate- and graduate-level Economics courses (including Microeconomics)

Financial Accounting

I have a post-graduate business degree, with a major in Accounting. I have a total of 36 semester hours of Accounting.

I have tutored Accounting for over 20 years, in the following areas: Principles I and II, Cost Accounting, and Intermediate I and II.

General Computer

Have taught students from very young to post-retirement in using computers. Teach Windows, Mac, and Linux. Incredibly patient. Have run computer help desks, along with hands on computer training at homes, businesses, and classrooms.

GMAT

I have tutored on the various math aspects of the GMAT, for over 25 years. The math area of the GMAT is very familiar for me.

Although I took the test over 20 years ago, the math covered hasn't changed that much. Whatever changes have taken place, I have already tutored students in these other areas.

Managerial Accounting

I have a post-graduate business degree, with a major in Accounting. I have a total of 36 semester hours of Accounting.

I have tutored Accounting for over 20 years, in the following areas: Principles I and II, Cost Accounting, and Intermediate I and II.

Prealgebra

Further, while tutoring math in college (almost 25 years ago), I was exposed to what has now become known as 'Common Core'. The basic premise behind this was to more carefully delineate student capabilities. Too many students were allegedly receiving a grade of 'A', with very different levels of understanding. The goal identified nearly 30 years ago, was that students who could do what was identified as 'higher order thinking' were the ones thought to deserve the grade of 'A', while those who could simply do the arithmetic operations would be relegated to a grade of 'B' or lower.

Regardless of the school system or state, the ability to do the higher order thinking has helped prepare my tutoring students to advance to the top of their math classes, both in understanding and performance.

SAT Math

Have tutored hundreds of students regarding the various math focus areas, for over 25 years.
