Texas State University (English)
I am a teacher at heart. I am a graduate of Texas State University, where I received a degree in English with a minor in religious studies. My passion is teaching kids of all ages the grandeur of the English language. Working with young adults is also very rewarding to me, so whether you are just learning how to read, or if you are in high school and looking for someone to help you improve your technical or creative writing skills, I am your guy. My teaching style is loose and fun, and I always try to incorporate my students' interests into our lesson plan so that, as we learn, their is never a dull moment. With this style of teaching, my aim is to identify whatever hobbies or future goals that a student might have and show them the role that English plays in advancing their life's interests, thus offering them a fuller understanding of the importance that reading and writing will have in their life.
Their is something else that you should know about my teaching qualifications; I am currently working on obtaining a CELTA certification. A CELTA certification is a requirement for teachers who wish to teach English at universities outside of the United States in non-English speaking countries. Basically, what this will allow me to do in the future is to teach English as a second language to students abroad in countries like Japan, China, India, and all the Spanish speaking countries in central and southern America. The classes I am taking for my CELTA certification have taught me the best methods of teaching to use when tutoring students who did not learn English as their first, primary language. If your son or daughter is behind in school simply because they did not learn English as their primary language, I can help- this is a passion of mine, as well as my choice of career!
I am qualified to teach English, grammar, creative writing skills, technical writing skills, literature, and English as a second language. I am also qualified to help teach the art of writing research papers, as I've had two of my own research papers published in peer-reviewed academic journals.
I can assure all my students that we will have fun while working together! I design my lessons around YOU, the student, because no student is the same. I am a teacher at heart. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I graduated Texas State University with a minor in religious studies. I have been attending bible study personally for the past 14 years. I am non-denominational and can approach bible study from both scholarly and ecclesiastical points of view.
