University of Texas Pan American (Social Studies Comp)
Hello, my name is Laura. I have been tutoring and helping students excel for eleven years now. I started my senior year in High School. I joined a volunteer program, Americorps, which allowed me to share my passion for helping others. I would tutor elementary and middle school children during school, after school and weekends hours. After my year commitment was over, I started working at the Boys & Girls club where I was able to continue to help students succeed. As I watched these students grow and come back to thank me for helping them excel, I knew my calling was to teach. It gave me great joy to see my students graduate and promote to the next level.
I loved teaching so much, it led me graduate college with a Social Studies Composite degree. I got a job at a public school and started teaching 6th grade World Geography. Unfortunately I had to leave my job due to relocating to Central Texas. Last year they promoted to freshman. I still keep track of them and contact them now and then to see how they are doing. They know that if they ever need help they can contact me anytime. The same goes for any new student that enters my life.
The biggest reward in this career is being able to help you reach and surpass your goal. I will be the cheerleader in your sideline pushing you on.
I can speak, write and translate Spanish. My previous highlights of my previous employments have been my translating skills and being able to interact with Spanish speakers.
Public speaking is my favorite. I was the worship team leader at my church. We performed at many church events. That led me to become my pastors right hand and preach at youth and adults service.
In my previous employments, I would on-board and present new hire information to new employees.
I have a lot of patience and passion for helping people succeed. Passing on my knowledge and watching students grow with it is rewarding to me.
My passion for history. My bachelors degree covers all aspects of history: Geography, Government, Economics, Psychology, Politics, Anthropology....
I am available anytime you need me. Feel free to send me a message. Hello, my name is Laura. I have been tutoring and helping students excel for eleven years now. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
My experience in tutoring and teaching middle school students have allowed me to understand the material that Elementary students need to cover before being promoted to the next grade. During my teaching time, we reviewed standards that middle school children should have been introduced to in Elementary. Unfortunately some students had no understanding of those standards, so as their teacher, I had to incorporate Elementary standards with Middle School to get them up to par on their education.
I have been doing public speaking for many years now. I started performing at my church, which led me to start directing and preaching at many public events. This allowed me to not have stage freight and made me comfortable being in front of a crowd. It also allowed me to be very comfortable in teaching and leading. In my previous employments, I have been comfortable in taking lead of the team and presenting new information to students and employees.
