I am an experienced tutor. My style of tutoring depends on the individual I am teaching. I am flexible, thus have experienced considerable success in teaching non-writers to write and non-readers to read. In the acting field, I was able to help my High School students to so polish their audition skills that they were accepted in the University acting schools of their choice. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have an MFA in directing/acting, and a B.S major in Sociology and a minor in English Literature and. This means I am qualified to help someone face an audience without fear, help write their speech, and help them find the best way to present it, based on the nature of their audience. I've tutored students who were required to speak in front of high school and college audiences; Also business people who had to present job projects. Some were subsequently lauded for those presentations. My philosophy is to do a hands on evaluation, and kindly suggest ways to improve. This involves body language, dress, speech problems, overcoming shyness, and, of course, the speech's structure.
I have an MFA in acting from The Institute of Performing Arts - NYU Tisch School of the Arts.
I was a NYC actress for 15 years. Teaching the basic precepts of acting, and giving you the tools you need to become accomplished actors is my goal. Have directed many plays, and taught acting to many aspiring actors. Helped 3 students get into the acting schools of their choice. Other of my students presented outstanding auditions that got them the jobs. Talent is useful, but hard work to hone your craft creates the path to becoming a working actor.
