About Trisha

I am a previous medical student and current MBA student with a passion for teaching! I have had over 7 years of tutoring experience both privately and through several tutoring companies. I worked with Kumon, Smart Mindz, Action Potential Learning, and StudyPoint, and have received extensive training on the best teaching methods, most subjects from elementary through high school, and test prep (SAT/ACT/SAT Subject Tests). I privately tutor students from elementary through undergrad, and the students I have worked with were able to achieve their goals in terms of grades and understanding of the material.

My teaching style varies with each individual student, and I am committed to determining the most effective way to help each student reach their potential. I like to spend some time with the student to assess their strengths and areas that may need improvement. I firmly believe that teaching should be an interactive experience. I teach by first understanding the student's thought process, then introducing them to new ways of approaching and analyzing problems. Biologically, this creates novel pathways of thinking in the brain that enable the student to adapt new forms of problem solving to any aspect of their life. Inquiry-based learning allows students to explore the material in a way that it clicks for them and gives them a sense of accomplishment. In my past experience as a tutor, I have also found that once the concept is understood, working through several example problems and utilizing visuals solidifies it further, and ensures the student's ability to apply them. Ultimately my goal is to see improved problem solving skills, retention rate and a sense of accomplishment in each student I work with.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Bible Studies

I have a degree in Religious Studies. The emphasis of my degree was in Christianity, in particular, the comparison of historical and biblical texts. I also wrote a thesis on the concept of a Messiah in Judaism versus Christianity.

Biostatistics

I have a Biology degree which required me to take multiple biostatistics courses, such as Applied Biostatistics, and Biostatistics in Research. In medical school, I had to take a course on the application of biostatistics in medicine called Evidence Based Medicine, Science and Research.

Elementary (K-6th)

I have worked in two different elementary schools teaching remedial Math, Science, Reading and English to third, fourth and fifth graders. I worked in Kumon tutoring children ages 5-11 in math and reading. I also have receiving training on several different teaching methodology through Action Potential Learning and the elementary schools at which I taught.

Genetics

I have a degree in Biology and have successfully complete several advanced Genetic classes. I also attended medical school where I furthered my knowledge of Genetics through even more advanced classes. I have previously tutored Genetics at the undergraduate level.

Organic Chemistry

I have taken both Organic Chemistry I and II with the corresponding labs as part of my degree. I worked as a teaching assistant the year after I took the courses and tutored several students. I further studied Organic Chemistry in medical school.

Religion

I have a degree in Religious Studies. The emphasis of my degree was in Christianity. However, I took several comparative religion classes on Islam, Judaism, Buddhism, Hinduism and more. I also wrote a thesis on the concept of a Messiah in Judaism versus Christianity.

STAAR

I have worked in two different elementary schools teaching STAAR Math and Reading to third, fourth and fifth graders. I helped design the most effective curriculum to target remedial students. I also have receiving training on how to tutor the STAAR exam through the company I worked for and the elementary schools at which I taught.
