I have more than 9 years teaching and tutoring English as a second Language. I have taught all levels and all kinds of English including TOEFL, Academic English, business English. I have taught all ages and all levels of English. My youngest student being 5 years old! I also have 5 years experience helping students who have special needs for example dyslexia, ADD, ADHD.
I find my job very satisfying and rewarding. I love showing my students that English can be fun and it is really easy, even the grammar. I enjoy motivating and inspiring my students to be the best they can be in all they do.
I am a highly professional, results-driven ESL/TESOL teacher with experience in development and delivery of language programs to a wide variety of students encompassing diverse backgrounds, beginner to advance, from students and migrants to business professionals. My qualifications include the CELTA (Certificate in English Language training to Adults) and the DELTA (Diploma in English Language Teaching to Adults). My professional experience includes nine years as an English teacher in various English language schools and private schools around Durban, South Africa.
As a teacher and facilitator at Crawford College La Lucia in Durban, I guided, motivated and tutored students one on one. This role demanded regular creation of learning materials, the teaching of lessons, workshops and intensive courses, the preparation of progress reports and delivery of in-house testing. I was commended for my performance.
As a teacher at Durban Language Centre and International House Durban, I gained a wealth of experience teaching multilingual classes of many sizes as well as business clients a range of business communication skills through various intensive courses ranging from beginner level to advanced, academic and ESP. This involved developing customised materials for each student group, and in some cases programs tailored to individual clients.
I am warm and friendly and absolutely love making mistakes in my lessons. I feel that mistakes are the best way to learn and I never want my students to feel afraid to try because they may make a mistake.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have worked with a number of Elementary students tutoring them after school to improve their reading and language skills.
Lessons were a combination of teaching methodologies to suit the young learner and their needs namely outcomes-based and the communicative style. I find that children learn best when doing and the simplest, clearest explanations is best to avoid confusion and promote and encourage the student to do their best.
I have 3 years experience with Elementary tutoring and have worked with a 6 year old and a 7 year old, Grade R and 2 respectively, as well as a young learner from 4th Grade. Most teaching was ESL based as the learners were from non-English speaking countries. However, they were learning English at school as a first language and needed help and guidance merging the two.
Lessons were an hour long, with a combination of tasks and communicative games. The aim of the tasks were for intrinsic learning. The aims of the communicative games and tasks were for the students to practice and reproduce the new skill or language taught. Lessons were made up of a number of different tasks and games with the same aim to make sure the young learner's attention was always in check and to keep the learner challenged in a positive light.
