My name is Adela, I recently finished my bachelor's degree in physics at Yale University, and I'm a new graduate student studying Computational and Applied Math at UChicago. At Yale I worked as a Science and Quantitative Reasoning tutor, and I found that tutoring other students in STEM subjects was one of the most rewarding parts of my schedule. My name is Adela, I recently finished my bachelor's degree in physics at Yale University, and I'm a new graduate student studying Computational and Applied Math at UChicago. At Yale I worked as a Science and Quantitative Reasoning tutor, and I found that tutoring other students in STEM subjects was one of the most rewarding parts of my schedule. I've taken graduate-level coursework in applied mathematics, theoretical computer science, and data science, and my favorite part of my classes has always been making new mathematical connections between different topics! I love working with students at any level: even topics people call "simple" are rich in interesting ideas.

I have a year of experience tutoring college-level math through both group and one-on-one lessons. My work included assessing students' starting points, planning personalized review lessons to target students' topics of interest, and working through practice problems to help students gain comfort and experience. Classes I've tutored include Applied Linear Algebra; Proof-based Linear Algebra; Discrete Math for Computer Scientists; and Measurement and Estimation (an introductory class focusing on high-school level probability and statistics). Apart from college-level math, I have a strong comfort with all topics in high-school math and younger. Outside of my mathematical experience, I am comfortable working with children of all ages.

I have loved exploring math in many different domains, including physics, computer science, and data science, and it has given me an appreciation for the fact that every student learns math in a different way. In my tutoring, I work to get to know my students' perspectives--their strengths and weaknesses, the things they do and don't understand, the ways they like to visualize problems. For example, if you're a visual person, maybe the best way to build your intuition for derivatives is by sketching graphs. In contrast, if you learn better from applications, maybe we can talk about derivatives from a more physics persp

Knowledgeable and patient tutor

I am very please with Adela. Most tutors try to offer answers without a thorough explanation. Adela is different. You will definitely notice how professional and knowledgable she is by her way of teaching. She guides and leads and has my son offer suggestions or find the answer (love this!). It's a true one on one lesson. Sometimes professors just go over the assignment very briefly. Adela goes through the assignment step by step and does it very patiently. It helps the student to actually learn and feel confident. So glad we found her.
