Hi, I'm Amanda! I have tutored standardized test prep (SAT Reasoning, SAT Subject Tests, ACT, AP Exams, GED, GRE, GMAT) for the last eight years, and have tutored subjects (Algebra I/II, Geometry, Trigonometry, Precalculus, Calculus, Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Statistics) for the last ten years! I have worked with students from middle school through college level, including adult students.
Throughout my experiences as a private and group tutor, I have learned the very best, and most effective, strategies and approaches to working with students at any level. Locally (I am based in Austin, Texas), I work almost exclusively with students at a STEM magnet high school, which has given me excellent experience with all AP courses, as well as the advanced curriculum.
My strength as a tutor comes from my patience, thorough explanations, and ability to meet students exactly where they are: there is no question too small or "silly"! I have great relationships with all of the students I tutor, and truly enjoy helping them achieve understanding and mastery in their classes. My specialties include math, science, and standardized testing. I have an excellent success rate, consistently helping my students to gain 300-plus point increases on their SAT Reasoning tests, and 5 points on the ACT. I do this by teaching the content on these tests, not just testing "tricks". This always results in higher score gains, better final results, and knowledge that students can take with them to future courses.
I absolutely love what I do, and most enjoy working with students who are motivated and committed to working toward their goals. I can move as quickly or slowly as you require, and will always make my first priority to empower you to reach your academic goals. Students often tell me that I explain things in a way that "makes it all seem so easy", and that they wish they'd met me sooner! Looking forward to meeting and working with you, too. :)
I hold a degree in Psychology from St. Edward's University, where I also completed the pre-medical trek. I have a strong math and science background, and have tutored for over a decade. I have worked as a teacher in a charter school, worked in educational research at The University of Texas at Austin, and currently run my own tutoring and test prep business. I am well-versed in all high school math courses up to and including Calculus, as well as biology, chemistry, and physics.
I am always happy to speak with prospective students and parents about tutoring, including my process and policies, as well as what you can expect when working with me. I am easy to reach and offer quick response times. Please don't hesitate to contact me with any questions you may have, or to schedule a session!
