About Hope

Bio

I'm Hope! I graduated from Yale in 2015 with a Bachelor's in mechanical engineering. While there, I spent two years as a peer tutor for an intro physics class, where I held office hours and students came to me with questions. In high school, I briefly tutored a fellow high school student in geometry (until our schedules began to conflict). I also have a podcast where I explain concepts about energy storage; this has been my largest teaching project of late.

I find it gratifying to help people learn. I know firsthand that school and tests can be really stressful, and that it can make a huge difference for students to have someone to help them! I also enjoy looking for ways to make material fun and interesting.

Chemistry,

Chemistry

I took AP Chemistry in high school, one semester of physical chemistry (including quantum stuff) in college, and an electrochemistry course in grad school. As a mechanical engineering undergrad and as a materials science grad student, basic chemistry concepts were frequently relevant, so these concepts are still pretty fresh for me.
Physics,

Physics

Peer tutor for a year-long intro physics track at Yale University (both mechanics and electricity & magnetism) for two years.

Awesome tutor!

Hope helped my son with his high school Physics class. Very helpful! We will definitely call her again and again. She was easy to communicate with, prompt, friendly, and knowledgeable.

Great tutor

Very nice and knowledgeable! If you do not get something right away she can explain it in different ways until it finally clicks. Knows more than most physics tutors. I reached out to a number of different people and she was one of the only people to say she could help me with the specific topics I needed.

Excellent teacher and so patient

My daughter just had her second Geometry lesson with Hope and we couldn’t be happier. Hope obviously knows the material and is able to explain it in a way that makes sense to her student. We will continue with once a week lessons as long as schedules allow.

First session, Big hit

My daughter had her first session yesterday with Hope—related to her AP Chemistry course. I asked her how it went and she replied: “I finally learned what my teacher hasn’t been teaching us well.” Hope focused in on the lesson she needed and delivered. And my daughter liked her personality as well! I’d say that’s a home run. We will hire her again!
