Whether working with students after school or at school during the day, I have several years of tutoring and one-to-one intervention experience. I have a Masters and Doctorate in Education, specifically in Curriculum and Instruction with a special emphasis in Language and Literacy Studies.

In addition, I have lifetime teaching certification (Texas) for grades 1-8. Literacy, both reading and writing, is my passion, and I am certified in the Orton-Gillingham Dyslexia remediation method. In addition I've had great success working with students with dysgraphia and dyscalculia. I've found that there is a strong overlap between dyslexia and dyscalculia. I work with students diagnosed with ADHD who need a coach who can help them learn organizational skills.

For me, the beauty of one-to-one tutoring is the chance to help a student grow in ability and self-confidence. Helping students have "ah-ha" moments is a joy. In contrast to teaching a classroom full of students, tutoring gives me the opportunity to see immediate change. One of the most exciting aspects of tutoring is helping students learn to advocate for their own learning needs, as this is a skill that they will need throughout their lives.
