Organic chemistry is my passion - so much so that I have devoted years of my life to earn a Ph.D. in synthetic organic chemistry. During my time in graduate school, I found great joy in sharing this passion with others as both a tutor and a T.A., and helping them to succeed in this difficult subject.

Chemistry (particularly organic chemistry) is not like most other subjects; it is quite unfriendly to rote memorization. A detailed understanding of the mechanisms and the various factors that determine reactivity is critical to mastery of the subject. I strive to guide my students toward mastery of mechanisms and development of their chemical intuition so as to minimize the amount of necessary memorization and give them the confidence to tackle the unfamiliar problems they may face on exams.

As a T.A. I graded countless exams (and I wrote a few myself), and so I know the common traps and mistakes that students stumble on. I have a Ph.D. from the University of Texas at Austin (Hook 'em!!) and during my time in grad school I worked as a private tutor in the semesters I was not a T.A. My students enjoyed one-on-one sessions where we worked on tough problems together, some even at the graduate level. They would arrive for sessions with their exams in hand, proud to show me their As and would say "that exam was cake compared to the problems we went over together!" I have had great success in turning my students into the class curve-breakers, and their mastery of the subject has helped them excel on the MCAT, PCAT, and GRE exams.

Organic chemistry has a reputation for being the boogieman of the pre-med world. It doesn't have to be this way! Together we will work through this challenging content and develop the tools and skills necessary to tackle new problems with ease.

Super Clear and Helpful

Rachel has been such a big help to me this through my Ochem course!. I had to take Ochem in the summer so I was really worried about how fast-paced the course would be, but Rachel manages to explain and break down all the concepts in a way I can understand it. She is great at explaining her thought process while working through each problem and her notes have been great study guides for me. With Rachel I got an A in the first Ochem course and will continue to be tutored by her for Ochem 2!

Knowledgeable tutor

Her strategies are very helpful for understanding the material. She is knowledgeable on the subject and knows what she is talking about. She helped me break down some difficult mechanisms from organic chemistry.

Best Tutor Ever!

Rachel is seriously the best. She is extremely helpful, sweet, and incredibly knowledgeable. I had her as a tutor for Organic Chemistry 1 and plan to have her as a tutor for Organic Chemistry 2 as well. She has great experience tutoring students and teaches mini lessons that always prepare me for my exams. She will write her lessons neatly on paper that the student can take home to study- these were awesome and so helpful. She is honestly the best!

Very diligent and knowledgeable!

Rachel is invested in your success and developing complete understanding of orgo concepts, advises on the best ways to study, and is clearly passionate about what she teaches. She makes herself available for her students, even outside of lessons. She goes the extra mile to ensure that you have the understanding that you need to have a firm grasp on organic chemistry. The way she teaches is concise, to the point, and clear, and also works well with visuals. Her experience and breadth of knowledge shows--she never hesitates to explain anything to you in as much detail as you possible. She is well worth having on your side.
