I currently work at ACC assisting with specific health programs admissions questions. However I also have two years of working with high school students. Last academic year I taught a college and career readiness course to high school students assisting with mostly with essay writing and college applications, occasionally with SAT Prep and ACT Prep. I thoroughly enjoy helping students achieve their goals through gaining access to higher education. I believe that applying to colleges is a very difficult and trying time, I also understand that this is a time to begin to understand yourself which is an important part of writing your college essay.
Prior to my year working with students gaining college access I worked with students struggling academically helping them to discover helpful study tools, time management, organization skills etc in order for them to improve their grades.
I believe in asking questions, a lot. I first see what is understood by students and then work from their to guide their understandings instead of simply being told what to do. I will explain and question to ensure a true understanding of material and/or what is needed to be done (for essay writing and applications). I also enjoy having real relationships with my students. I answer questions just as much as I ask questions, and I do so honestly.
I am available after 7pm every weeknight and just about anytime during the weekends. Please contact me to find out more about myself and my teaching styles and or to schedule a time to meet and find out in person. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
