Clemson University (Secondary Education)
This will be my seventh year teaching. My first three years of experience were in middle and high school. I taught many different history and government courses, including ancient and modern world history and U.S. History. I spent the last three years teaching 5th grade, where I was responsible for all core classes (math, reading, writing, history, and science). I have also tutored dozens of students individually during that time, both during the school year and during summer months. This year, I am teaching at a middle school, working solely with students with autism. I have a wide range of teaching experience and I look forward to helping you as well!
My personal interests include reading, hiking, painting, and spending time with my family. I have one dog and have recently begun fostering dogs as well.
I have three years of experience teaching common core math. During my time as a fifth grade math teacher, my students routinely performed above grade level on their benchmark testing. This included students that were below or at grade level at the start of the year.
As previously mentioned, while I taught fifth grade, our math and reading/writing programs were overhauled to reflect common core standards, so all of my experience in elementary school teaching was with common core aligned curriculum.
I studied history extensively in college and spent three years teaching history. The first two years were at a small school, so I was able to teach 6th-12th grade history. My third year as a history teacher was spent at an academy for students who were one or two grade levels behind their correct grade. The academy's goal was to have those students earn credit for 8th and 9th grade in one year. My history students had a very high success rate.
I really enjoy helping students succeed, especially one-on-one when we can really focus on individual academic needs. I hope you will consider reaching out to me! In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
