I love reading out loud poems and stories in any of the following languages for fun: English, Vietnamese, Latin, Ancient Greek, Sanskrit, Hindi, Spanish, and French. Then I took three years of Latin and Ancient Greek at the University of Texas at Austin (Class of 2014). I majored in Classics, Latin, Ancient Greek, and Asian American Studies while completing coursework for the Bridging Disciplines Program in Cultural Studies. Then as a Master’s student, I became a Foreign Language Area Studies (FLAS) Fellow in Hindi, completing my Report analyzing a Sanskrit text.

This August, I will serve as an AmeriCorps Member as an ESL Instructor at the Goodwill Excel Center through the Literacy Coalition of Central Texas. I earned my TEFL/TESOL 150 hour Certificate from the Council for International Educational Exchange back in 2015, completing a 20-hour practicum with Adult speakers whose first languages were Spanish and Vietnamese. I graduated last August with my Master's Degree in Asian Studies at UT Austin, focusing on Hindi and Sanskrit.

I love feeling relaxed while learning a language and wish this peaceful feeling for everyone. If you are ready, I hope I can support you in your language-learning goals!

Greek,

Greek

I began Ancient Greek during senior year of high school as an independent study course with my Latin Teacher using the Athenaze textbook. As a Classics and Latin major at UT Austin, I am also 97% with a fourth major in Greek to be completed in 2017. I have participated in Paideia Institute's Living Greek in Greece program in both 2013 and 2016, and I plan to return because Greek is my love and heart. I have experience in lyric poetry, Homeric Greek, Herodotus, and a survey of authors from tragedy and philosophy. I am currently working through Plato's Symposium independently in order to prepare for my return to undergraduate study in Greek.
Latin,

Latin

I majored in Classics and Latin at the University of Texas at Austin. I participated in Paideia Institute's Living Latin in Paris where I practiced speaking Latin as a living language in the Latin Quarter. I have studied abroad in Rome through the Intercollegiate Center for Classical Studies through Duke University. I studied in Greece for Classics and Living Greek in Greece. I am patient, compassionate, and understanding when it comes to learning a foreign language because I grew up in a bilingual household speaking both Vietnamese and English. My TEFL certification gives me a more modern perspective for learning Latin as a living language.
ESL/ESOL

English

TOEFL,

TOEFL

I am TEFL/TESOL certified through the Council of International Educational Exchange where I earned 150 hours in coursework, including a 20 hour practicum where I tutored students in English whose native languages were Mexican Spanish and Vietnamese. I am patient, compassionate, and understanding when it comes to foreign language learning because I grew up in a bilingual household speaking Vietnamese and English. My knowledge of Latin, Ancient Greek, and in this case, Spanish and Italian, would help me with this student because we can work together to bridge their preexisting knowledge to increasing their proficiency in English, depending on which skills on the TOEFL exam they need to improve on.

History

Classics

Classics

Classics was my first major from the University of Texas at Austin. Before University, I had taken all four years of Latin at Westside High School in Houston, TX. I participated in Junior Classical League and took the Latin AP exams in Language and Literature, scoring a 4 and 5, respectively. As an undergraduate, I studied abroad at the Intercollegiate Center for Classical Studies at Rome through Duke University. I completed my senior thesis on select Roman authors and how they promoted their identity through genre and engaging with the public imaginary. I have also participated in Paideia Institute's Living Greek in Greece program in both 2013 and 2016, as well as Living Latin in Paris in 2015. I am currently pursuing my fourth major in Ancient Greek at UT Austin for the 2017 school year.

Hindi,

Hindi

For my Master's in Asian Studies at the University of Texas at Austin (2017-20), I was a Foreign Language Area Studies (FLAS) Fellow in Hindi. Through the American Institute for Indian Studies (AIIS), I studied abroad in Jaipur during the summer of 2018 and lived with a Hindi-speaking host family. Learning to speak Hindi at the South Asia Institute at UT enriched my Sanskrit studies. Learning Hindi also empowered me to do research in Sanskrit for my Master's Report in 2020. Most importantly, learning Hindi has connected me to so many mentors, role models, classmates, and friends. I still love to speak Hindi with friends, as well as read the contemporary literature and poetry out loud for fun.
