I'm Amanda W., a graduate of Georgia Tech with a Bachelors in Science Electrical Engineering with a concentration in semiconductor devices. The summer before my freshman year of college I spent six weeks tutoring and counseling children ages 6-13 at a camp about basic mathematics, reading, and grammar. All the children I tutored increased their school test scores by at least 5% the next year. Aside from a camp counselor I have lead a number of study groups throughout my career at Tech. When I taught other people about the material I knew best, I realized that I had to explain it in with different approaches so that everyone would be able to understand. I also made sure to check for understand whenever I went over new concepts and made sure everyone felt at ease about asking questions no matter how many times I would have to go over something.

I have completed all of my college level math classes with 4.0. Each subject I taught my fellow classmates the hard concepts and developed plans to help them better study for my classes. I break each concept down to the fundamentals so it is easier to understand remember during a test. I also develop a test taking plan for each concept, so on the day of the test you will feel confident in your ability to excel.

I relate electrical engineering problems to everyday situations so that the materials is easier to remember and grasp. Also, I have used my electrical engineering skills in the field for 1.5 years, so I can explain how some concepts are used on the job. Additionally, I research in organic semiconductor devices for a year with doctoral student at Georgia Tech in the Kippelen Research group. These experiences will be translated to help you understand how these concepts are actually used.

I’ve mentored and tutored elementary and middle school students. I’ve been a STEM mentor for Communities in Schools San Antonio, where I advised a team of 10 middle schoolers to build a mock International Space Station. That team won best engineered design for a regional competition. I’ve also tutored a group of 10 elementary students in math and reading over a summer. The students from the program showed marked improvement in their test scores above their classmates.

I received a Bachelors in Electrical Engineering from Georgia Tech with highest honors in May 2016. I have 1.5 years of work experience related to radar and circuits. I also researched in the Kippelen Research Group at Georgia Tech for 1 year conducting experiments on organic semiconductors. During this time I aided in another member's research by manufacturing and testing 15 organic transistors and 25 organic solar cells.

Knowledgeable and awesome

Amanda tried to figure out my style of learning and was very patient. I would definitely recommend her! I was able to grasp the material and complete the homework.

Knowledgeable, positive, and patient

Calculus II was giving me anxiety and Amanda helped lower mine. She is very knowledgeable and made the experience fun. Her patience and positivity helped get me more comfortable with the material.

Eager to help

We needed a short notice emergency tutoring before our regular sessions were scheduled to start. Amanda was kind enough to accommodate us and help out my daughter with an upcoming test that she felt unprepared to take. My daughter left the session feeling a lot better about her knowledge and felt like Amanda's explanations helped her understand where she wasn't understanding before. We are looking forward to our regular sessions and are confidant in Amanda's abilities and knowledge.

Very positive. Intelligent & hardworking tutor

She helped me with a subject that she wasn't familiar with (Math 1324 for business and social sciences) and did a lot of research to find relevant work. She was obviously very intelligent and put it time to try to understand the subject. Shes somebody that is warming and easy to talk to. I know she did her best and wanted me to have a better understanding of the subject before our session was over. I appreciate her efforts but I'd rather a tutor turn me down than meet with me when they didn't have prior knowledge of the subject. I was a bit disappointed because I didn't have a better understanding of the work. A part of it could've been me not sending the tutor all the information or A website for the class but regardless, a tutor shouldn't meet with somebody who's paying them to teach a subject if they don't understand that subject.
