I have always loved teaching, and have been involved with education in one way or another throughout most of my life. I am particularly interested in sharing with others the wealth of being bilingual, and bicultural.
I was born in New York, and moved to the Dominican Republic at age 5. I completed elementary, high school and my B.A in Psychology in Santo Domingo, D.R. I returned to the States for my MA. While still in Santo Domingo, I taught English in elementary schools, and English as a Foreign Language at a Bicultural/Binational Center. I completed US Peace Corps Service in a Teacher Training College in Nyiregyhaza, Hungary teaching EFL and, after this, I went abroad with the PC as a TEFL trainer to Cape Verde, Armenia and Kazakhstan.
After working approximately 8 years as an editor for Houghton Mifflin Harcourt, I obtained my teaching certification and went back to the classroom. I currently teach Bilingual Pre-K. I believe that teaching is the most expedient way to learn.
I have an MA in Linguistics with a mention in ESL/ESOL from Ohio University, and most of the coursework for the doctorate in Curriculum and Instruction, Bilingual education from UT, Austin.
I taught children and adult EFL in the Dominican Republic and Hungary, as well as adult ESL in Tampa, FL; Ohio, and Austin.
I am currently certified and work as a bilingual teacher. I lived and studied in the Dominican Republic for almost 20 years. I worked as a Spanish language editor with Houghton Mifflin Harcourt, and while studying for my Teaching Certification I continued to do editorial and translation work as a freelancer.
I am currently available for tutoring from 9:30 am to 7:00 pm and I can meet with students in the Austin Area. My base rate is $50.00 per hour.
I look forward to meeting you, and help you meet your goals! I have always loved teaching, and have been involved with education in one way or another throughout most of my life. I am particularly interested in sharing with others the wealth of being bilingual, and bicultural.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
