About Chelsea

My wealth of experience makes me a great tutor for two reasons. First, I have my Master's and am a PhD candidate in the 5th year of my graduate school program in sociology. Through my education and training, I have a vast quantitative skill set. My research uses statistical analyses to analyze trends in human social behavior. I also have a strong background in writing and communication, developed by writing class essays, authoring peer-reviewed publications, and presenting to large groups at conferences across the U.S.

Second, my experience as a teaching assistant in college-level courses means that I know how to engage students, help them understand the material, and use a variety of teaching techniques for students with different learning styles. As a teaching assistant, I worked with students during 300-student lectures, led 35-student discussion sections, and met one-on-one with students during my office hours to go through their essays, tests, and general study skills.

Most of my graduate school work is in statistics and quantitative analyses. I also have a strong math background from honors math classes in middle school, high school, and college.

I look forward to working with you to get wherever you need to go -- whether it's a higher grade, a better understanding of the course material, or improvement in general skills.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Social Studies

I have a Master's in sociology and am a current PhD student. Most of my undergraduate classes were in related social science and social studies fields (history, psychology). I have taught as a teaching assistant for introduction to sociology courses. That experience included classroom discussion sections and one-on-one work.
