Hi! Thank you for visiting my profile and considering me as a tutor. My education and professional background is in Training and Development and Adult Education which is a very different way of teaching and learning than educating children and adolescents. It has to be fun and interesting and I know how to do that with varied learning techniques, role plays, and games.
My favorite subject to teach is Italian and I find it the most beautiful language in the world. I'm from a bi-lingual family but, decades ago, I decided to make a serious academic study of Italian and have studied in many US cities at universities and private schools and in Italy with prestigious fellowships in Siena, Florence and Rome. I've been teaching Italian for over 10 years now. I belong to the International Council for Teaching Foreign Language which keeps our teaching fresh and constantly working to perfect ourselves. I have lived in Italy but now that I am based here in Austin, I spend significant time in Italy every year visiting my family and keeping my language fresh.
I teach all levels of Italian--from beginning to advanced--and have developed a specific short course for travelers that concentrates on practical phrases to make your trip more fun and less stressful. Whatever your reason for learning la bella lingua, I can accommodate your goals and tailor the material and pace to your specific needs.
In addition to Italian, I teach English as a Second Language (ESL). I am a native speaker, my BA is in English, and I am a writer so I enjoy sharing the joys and richness of English and helping people learn so their lives here are smoother. I have taught people from all over the world both in schools and privately.
My final teaching expertise is in Public Speaking. When I was with the Training Consultancy, my specialty was training and coaching executives and others who needed to be able to make presentations to groups to polish their styles and present in ways that were both professional and dynamic. No droning allowed!
For all my students in Italian, ESL, and Public Speaking, I work to sharpen their diction for ease of communication. After all, all these subjects are about are being able to communicate.
If you have any questions, please let me know. I would be honored to be selected to work with you. Thank you again for your consideration and good luck with your studies! Hi! In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
In addition to being a native speaker my BA is in English and I am a writer so I enjoy sharing the richness of the English language with others. I have taught ESL privately, with some church programs, and at a few schools. My goal is for my students to be able to be--at minimum--easily conversant in English then go on the the level of mastery they choose. In this way, their lives here in the States will be easier and they will be able to succeed in their careers and private lives.
Before I embarked on the second career of Adult Education in language I was an executive with a surgical device company so, if you are a relocating international executive, I can help with American business culture issues as well.
If you have questions, please let me know. Let's get started!
In addition to being from a bi-lingual family (from Tuscany), for decades I have studied academic Italian seriously at universities and schools here in the States and with prestigious fellowships in Siena, Florence, and Rome.
We all master colloquial language from our conversations and I have lived on and off in Italy and, even when based here, travel to Italy yearly to visit my family and tune up my language skills. I have taught Italian at all levels at schools in Dallas, St. Louis, and Atlanta as well as with private students.
In addition to levels from Beginner I to Advanced, I have developed a special short program for travelers that concentrates on learning essential phrases to make travel safer, more interesting and fun, and less stressful. I would love to be your guide to la bella lingua! Whatever your goal in learning Italian, I can help you reach it.
When I was in the Training and Development Consultancy, I was the specialist for Public Speaking for Executives for 5 years. I did both seminars and individual training. The name of the consultancy was The Evans Group. My clients included Texas Instruments, Young Presidents' Associations (for CEOs under 40), and American Medical Electronics. References available on request.
In addition to that experience, I am professional public speaker myself. My training methods include speaking principles, modeling with example, live feedback, and video critique.
