My name is Jessica, and I have been teaching children with learning differences for 8 years. I recently moved to Austin, and I am continuing to teach and tutor students with learning differences and learning delays. I began tutoring students four years ago, and it has become a large part of my life. I have tutored students of all ages and at all levels.
I have extensive experience teaching elementary and middle school students in all core classes including, language arts, math, science, reading, and writing. I also offer students organizational skills and homework support.
I have a bachelor's degree in special education, a master's degree in reading education, and an education specialist degree in special education. I am certified as a highly qualified Texas educator in K-12 special education, including K-12 reading and English, K-8 science, K-8 math, and K-8 social studies. I also hold a general education certificate in K-6.
I have had the opportunity to train and teach using research proven methods. I have trained with William Van Cleave, Neuhaus, and The International Dyslexia Association. My teaching experience has allowed me to understand how special and unique ways of teaching, differentiate and work for the student. I aim to provide a stimulating, multi-sensory learning environment that fosters confidence and skills.
I am passionate about learning and teaching. I take great pride inspiring students to learn. Seeing students "get it" and understanding my role in helping them achieve their goals is what I love about teaching. I use a wide variety of teaching methods because I understand that no two students learn the same way. My goal is to help your child reach their fullest potential.
Currently, I am am a part-time student pursuing a doctoral degree in special education at the University of Texas at Austin. I am studying learning disabilities and behavior disorders with a specific emphasis on reading disabilities. I work full-time at a private school in Austin that specializes in teaching students with dylexia, and I tutor in the evenings.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have extensive training and eight years experience tutoring and teaching students with ADD/ADHD. I understand that the symptoms of inattentiveness, hyperactivity, and impulsiveness may make learning difficult for your child. Discovering the best methods to teach your child will be the pathway we will take toward success.
I have taught students on the spectrum for six years. I implement strategies that reflect the needs of the individual child. My lessons are structured and differentiated for the student. Visuals, creativity, and brain breaks are also a part of our lessons.

I have taught phonics to students with learning disabilities for eight years. I use Orton-Gillingham methods to to help teach phonics concepts to the child.
