University of Arkansas Fort Smith (English with TL)
My love for tutoring comes from getting plenty and loving it when I was growing up. I always loved learning. I was such a knowledge sponge but certain subjects didn't click for me. Teachers oftentimes thought I was being lazy if I didn't do on assignments. So, I tutor so that I can help students who aren't getting everything they need from a traditional school system. I have also used tutored for higher level tests.
Graduating from U Arkansas Fort Smith Cum Laude with a 3.79, I'm extremely passionate about language and English. We use it every day! I love seeing "ah hah!" moments with my students. I have worked with many ages and all different backgrounds. I seek to make the subject matter relevant to the students life, because that's the only way to remember it right? I want my students to be open with me on new learning techniques. Also, my lessons will be challenging but not so much that the student feels it is impossible.
I have led many Bible study groups as well. There is so much in common with learning English and being able to understand the Bible. I love unpacking a text, especially the Bible and finding out what the other is saying. I hope to instill that love for literature as well!
I look forward to working with you!
I have an Bachelor's in English and a 7-12 Certification. I have taught ages ranging literally 7-12. I have taught in Pre-AP classes but also in lower level and inclusion classes. I have taught ESL students and students that were bored because they already knew the content. I was trained for differentiation--making each lesson challenging to inspire learning no mater the different levels of the students' skills. I have done after school programs and worked with younger kids when I was at a youth club. have edited for a small plagiarism company, and I am simply a grammar nerd! Above all I love what I do.
Learning is hard! I don't think many people really understand how complex that is. There is also not one (or even 5) sole ways to learn. I enjoy getting to know students so that I can apply my teaching philosophy to their learning style, this way the student has the best chance to advance! Please contact me to learn more about me as a tutor and to schedule a lesson so that I can help you reach your goals. God bless. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I'm Certified English 7-12 with 2 years teaching experience in varying ranges of ages and proficiency levels!
As a 7-12 certified English teacher I teach all aspects of English. However, specifically I have worked in a Reading-Writing Workshop curriculum school as well as having done in-school after hours reading comprehension help. Many teachers simply pass the student to the next level without making sure they are in the correct reading level. I work to make sure the student doesn't slip under the radar and understands all aspects of how reading works... And make it fun!
