About Katelyn

As a university professor for nearly 20 years, I know that hard work and a willing attitude toward learning really pays off, not just in the short term (grades in a class) but in the long term. Every student is unique and each has an individual learning style. . A tutor needs to tailor explanations and examples in ways that best meet the needs of the individual learner so that they can successfully achieve their goals.

I take my work, and my students' work, seriously and those students that come to me prepared to work will find me a valuable resource and an enthusiastic ally. I consider my job as a tutor to not just encompass the actual tutoring session that the student attends. I do extensive behind-the-scenes preparation for each student to address his/her unique needs, putting together information and resources for the student to draw on long after the tutoring session has ended. I have a lifelong love of learning and find tremendous joy in teaching and seeing my students blossom.

A primary goal for each tutoring session is to keep the student challenged without feeling overwhelmed. I provide challenging homework and/or resources that the student can draw on at home (depending on the students' needs and desires), along with clear, relevant examples. I work to provide students with mastery of the concepts but I do not provide answers for specific assignments. Rather, I provide students with the foundational knowledge relevant to specific assignments so that they can tackle the assignments on their own and with confidence.

While I do have a policy of 24 hours notice of cancellation, I offer make-up sessions should a student need to cancel a lesson.

I look forward to hearing from you and helping you achieve success and attain your goals!

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

JavaScript

I've conducted nearly 20 years of academic research, focusing on UX design and effects on the user. Coding skills have played an essential part in crafting that research. I've earned front-end web development certification from an accredited college and am fluent in Javascript, PHP, HTML, CSS, and Bootstrap, among others.

JQuery

I'm a college professor and a freelance front-end web developer, with a certificate in web development through an accredited college. I tutor Javascript through Wyzant. In-depth knowledge of CSS, HTML, and jQuery are essential components, as your Javascript code must work intimately with the DOM (accessed via HTML elements), the layout and style (CSS), as well as including functions via the jQuery library.

Writing

In addition to being a published author in academic journals and the author and editor of college textbooks, I have taught both undergraduates and graduates at the university level for 20 years. During that time, I have been an active volunteer working with both elementary and high school students on their writing and research skills. I am knowledgeable about the mechanics and the creative aspects of writing. Most of all, I thoroughly enjoy teaching and it has been my life's work.
