About James

I specialize in advanced math, science, and engineering subjects at the college-level but also teach English, writing, and music. My experience as a teacher spans nearly 20 years with a strong track record for success. I believe everyone, and I mean everyone, has the capacity to learn, and I do my best to take the subject material and make it as easy to understand and retain as possible. Unlike most teachers, I have strong industry experience, and therefore actually know how math and science are used in the real world!

In my career I have done many interesting things: worked on next-gen Mars rovers for NASA, innovated new diesel engine technologies for Cummins, played saxophone on two Grammy-nominated albums, and co-wrote a screenplay optioned by Hollywood! However, my greatest joy still comes from sharing my knowledge and igniting a passion for learning in others.

I love meeting new people, figuring out how they learn best, and seeing them accomplish their goals. So please let me know what I can do to help!

Great tutor! — We are so happy James responded to our needs. He is tutoring my daughter in both Pre Calc and Physics. He does a great job and explains it for her so that she understands it, which was not happening at school. After the first session my daugher said "Keep him! He explains it so well and doesn't make me feel like I'm stupid for having problems with these classes." High praise from a teen! If ...
