About Elizabeth

Get to know me:
The University of Texas has been so good to me. Yes, it has offered me handfuls of knowledge and experience, but it also has helped me discover what I am passionate about. I have learned first, I love chemistry way too much for the average person. Second, to my surprise I learned I love teaching. I get inexplicably carried away when helping others understand the secrets of science. My favorite style when teaching is to use real world examples to explain complex ideas. I find this method helps students not only understand their current material, but also helps them understand future material down the road, even in other courses. Learning should be fun. Therefore, I do my best to make my students feel at ease with the subject at hand by helping them break down any barriers standing in their way.

Background:
My chemistry tutoring expertise extends from high school Chemistry to Organic Chemistry. In order to have gotten to where I am in my education I have had to take high level college math course. My ability to tutor these extends up to 9-10th grade level math. I have served as a first year mentor for new students at UT through my major and through an orientation program at the beginning of the semester for the past two years. I served as an assistant to a large college general chemistry course and a high school chemistry summer program. I have received professional training for all my teaching/ mentoring positions and am equipped to tutor both high school and college students. I have been tutoring privately for the past 2 years and have loved every moment of it!

Scheduling/ Rates:
I am currently a Junior Chemistry Major at the University of Texas, however my schedule is still very flexible. I prefer to meet in a public place near the University of Texas at Austin campus for example at a library or at a coffee shop, but I can also travel and meet if need be! Currently my base rate for in-person lessons is $35/hour and for online lessons is $30/hr. I also offer a 15% off discount for University of Texas/ ACC students.

I look forward to meeting you and helping guide you towards success!

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Chemistry

I am a Junior Chemistry Major at the University of Texas and my course repertoire extends from Pre-Ap Chemistry through Organic Chemistry. Over these four years of taking chemistry courses I have acquired analogies, specific thought processes/ connections, answers for frequently asked questions, and tips and tricks from PhD level professors and teachers. I have been tutoring chemistry privately for two years and I have been lucky to serve my university as a mentor for underclassmen in several different roles. I have professional training for teaching both high school and college students from my roles at UT and from summer internships.
