About Elizabeth

The University of Texas has been so good to me. Yes, it has offered me handfuls of knowledge and experience, but it also has helped me discover what I am passionate about. I have learned first, I love chemistry way too much for the average person. Secondly I learned I love teaching chemistry, and subjects like it. When I get to help others experience the secrets of science and math I feel unexplainably happy. Due to this passion of mine I applied to be a first year mentor for new students and a tutor for chemistry at UT. I was accepted and have been trained to tutor other students as well as lead a once a week seminar to new students.

My favorite style when I am teaching my students is to use real world examples to explain complex ideas. I find that this method helps students not only understand their current material, but it also helps them connect the dots quicker for any future material they are learning down the road. Learning should be fun. Therefore, I do my best to make my students feel at ease with the subject at hand by helping them break down any barriers standing in their way.

I specialize in the subjects of chemistry and Algebra. I am a chemistry major at my university and is therefore my most knowledgeable subject. My chemistry tutoring expertise extends from high school chemistry, AP level chemistry, and to college introductory chemistry. In order to have gotten to where I am in my education I also had to have high levels of expertise in math. My ability to tutor these extends up to 9-10th grade level math.

I am currently enrolled at the University of Texas, however my schedule is still very flexible. I prefer to meet in a public place near the University of Texas at Austin campus for example at a library or at a coffee shop, but I can also travel and meet if need be! Currently my base rate for in-person lessons is $35/hour and for online lessons is $25/hr. I also offer a 25% off discount for University of Texas, ACC, and St. Edwards University students.

I really look forward to meeting you and helping guide you towards success!

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Chemistry

I am a Sophomore Chemistry Major at the University of Texas. I have a 3.83 GPA and a 4.0 Chemistry GPA. I have found one of the best ways to teach chemistry during my time as a tutor at my college is to apply it to common real life situations. I have developed a large collection of examples over the past 4 years for explaining complex chemistry topics.

Izzy did a great job of explaining theories, how to analyze a problem and provided everyday examples. She also kept testing for understanding by asking questions.
