University of Texas- Austin (Youth and Commuinity)
My name is Mckenzie and I am a current student at the University of Texas- Austin. I am majoring in Youth and Community Studies and plan on becoming a certified teacher. I have a love for education and grew up in a home with parents as educators. That being said, I understand the importance of a quality education. I love the feeling both the student and the teacher get when the student understands a topic and grasps how it is relevant to their learning.
I have been employed since the age of 17, all jobs pertaining to education and students. My jobs range from working in the Central Office for a Texas school district to working hands on with K-12 students on an academic level. Education is a passion of mine and I am so thankful that I have had so many opportunities to understand all aspects of the Texas Education System.
I worked with PK-6 students in an aftercare program for a year and loved helping all grade levels with their homework. Math was always a harder subject for me to grasp in school, so I love helping students understand math concepts and watching the lightbulb turn on in their head.
I was an AP student in high school, including English courses. I am also a college student with plenty of experience in essay writing and language.
I worked solely with students who were retaking the English STARR test in the summer of 2014 and absolutely loved it! We worked on the exam as a whole, including the essay and short answer portions.
I worked with PK-6 students in an aftercare program for a year and loved helping all grade levels with their homework. Though it may seem cheesy, I also have a 5th grade brother back home who constantly FaceTimes me for help in all subjects.
I played volleyball for around 7 years and have taken a volleyball course at the University of Texas- Austin.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I am an education student at the University of Texas-Austin, and I worked for 1.5 years for a private, non-profit school, specifically for children with learning and behavioral disabilities. A large majority of my students suffered from severe Autism, and were a blessing to work with. I worked with these kids on a daily basis to complete schoolwork and daily activities. In addition, I am a member of Alpha Xi Delta, and our philanthropy is Autism Speaks. I work with my sorority to stay updated and engaged in the field of Autism.
I played basketball for around 10 years, up to the varsity level in high school. I also worked at indoor recreational sports complex. My parents were both basketball coaches, allowing me to experience how to approach the sport from a coach's perspective.
I spent the summer of 2014 tutoring students who were scheduled to retake the STARR exam at the end of the summer. I worked with students who needed focus on the English 1 and 2 exams by writing essays, short answers, and working on multiple choice reading questions. I am also studying to become a secondary teacher at the University of Texas- Austin.
