The University Of Oklahoma (Biology and Theatre)
Hi! I am a life long student, often finishing one project and moving on to the next -- always wanting to master new skills. I have a pretty varied background, which I believe can be helpful to multiple potential students.
I began my "teaching" as a young adult, working with many children and summer camps throughout my life. Doing this required that I provide lesson plans and activities to help expand the young minds. While I really enjoyed working with younger children, I developed a passion for more intense subjects as I got older. Many of these subjects are traditionally thought of as very "hard" and after some time working and developing these skills, I gained a desire to help people better understand them.
I have a heavy background in Theatre and English, so communication skills are very important to me. I really enjoy coaching actors as well as speeches-at all levels. Many people struggle with public speaking and I have always had a natural affinity for it. I have had the pleasure of teaching some theatre classes that were performance/monologue heavy and I have an extensive background in public speaking involving a presentation platform i.e. Powerpoint. I have directed multiple plays and have acted in ten times as many. One of my college majors was Theatre and I received 2 performance based scholarships which I held throughout my entire college career. I participated in multiple plays and musicals, and would love to share those lessons I learned with someone who might be struggling to be in front of an audience. I can help you rehearse and develop techniques to deliver an amazing speech or performance no matter your skill level or nerves.
On top of my theatre background, my second major in college was Biology with a Pre-Med emphasis. I developed a love for biology when I realized that I wanted to help other people. As I continued in my studies I realized that the world of bio was much larger than I thought and I have been doing scientific research as a career since my graduation. I have a very in depth knowledge of all of the life sciences; including but not limited to General Bio, Cellular and Molecular Bio, Anatomy, Physiology, Microbiology, Botany, Immunology, Ecology, Developmental Bio, General Chemistry, and Genetics. I received extensive training in these subjects for my major and I have continued to study them in my career. Not only do I understand the subject matter, but I have the ability to break it down and make it more digestible for the learner. So much of science is presenting your work and data in a way that is understandable for others, so I am sure I can help you learn this material. Not only that, I have worked on various projects that involve analyzing and presenting data. I have a great working knowledge of Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint to help you give the best presentation possible.
I hope you will consider me for anything from science and math tutoring, to acting coaching or speech presentation preparation. I look forward to helping you!
I hope I can help you tackle your nerves or help you to understand the inner workings of all living things! Hi! In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
