About Igal

I am a second-year graduate student in the Department of Physics at UT Austin. I work in an atomic physics lab where we study the properties of atoms so that we can manipulate them for certain medical, societal, and energy applications. I have been tutoring undergraduate students one-on-one through the Physics Department and in the Spring of 2015 semester, I was a teaching assistant for a modern physics class, where I lectured to students and helped them learn topics related to Einstein's Special Theory of Relativity and the development of quantum mechanics in the early 20th century.

I spend a lot of my time doing work related to physics or math. Throughout my time in school, I have come to love these two subjects and they have both profoundly influenced the way in which I lead my life. Through teaching and tutoring, I hope to be able to share with my students the excitement I feel for both of these subjects. For my own interests, I also hope to improve the way in which I communicate scientific information with others through teaching and tutoring.

I minored in math at UNC Chapel Hill, earning the top grades in my classes in differential equations and calculus. I use the knowledge from these classes to this day, so the information is still fresh in my mind.

I would be happy to tutor students of all ages in math and science. I work during the day from 9am - 6pm, but I am free to meet with students outside of those hours during the week and during the weekend as well.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Helpful Guide

He was very helpful in not telling me the answer straight away. Instead he lead me to the answer by asking me questions that made me explain, therefore learning, the problems that we working on. I didn't require much help it seemed like, because I knew most of the stuff, nonetheless he helped me gain my footing/confidence.
