About Amber

I am a former college professor and am starting a non-profit. I specialize in teaching study skills and methods. I found that high school students really benefit from a 'crash course' of how learning in college differs from what they've done in school up to this point. I love to teach how to cull information from multiple sources and analyze it for papers.

I worked in Mexico during my graduate field work and love to converse in Spanish. I specialize in pronunciation and getting students comfortable in conversing fluidly.

As a professor and writer, I am an avid proofreader! You want me to read your papers before they make it to your teachers. I also enjoy getting students comfortable with public presentations. Let's work to make your presentations more interesting to you and to your audience.

I will work hard for you if you work hard for me. I will not do your assignments, but I will help you to identify areas of improvement and polish your products.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Anthropology

I hold a BA, MA, and Ph.D. in Anthropology. I have taught it at The University of Texas at Austin and Monmouth College. My specialties are in cultural and linguistic anthropology, but also have experience in archaeology.

Archaeology

I hold a Ph.D. in anthropology from the University of Texas which requires proficiency in 3 of the 4 anthropological sub-fields. Archaeology was one of my 3 sub-fields. I have been on digs in Belize and Texas during graduate school.

College Counseling

As a professor at a small liberal arts school, I acted as a counselor for our students. I feel that one of my biggest jobs as a professor to incoming freshmen was not to teach anthropology, but to teach them how to become college students.
