Hello, my name is Debbie, and I am a certified and experienced (K-6) Elementary teacher. I choose the teaching profession because I want to make a difference for and help the struggling students, and I can't think of a better way to do that than to tutor students who are struggling in a specific subject area.
My teaching approach and advice for those who feel the subject matter has conquered them is this. First it starts with really wanting a different grade and wanting to understand. Next with a teacher or tutor who really cares, and a student who is willing to study and put in the time to work the problems there is hope for any subject matter, lack of skill, or any difficulty you are having.
I look forward to meeting you and tutoring you, so we can see how my personal experiences, education, and skills can make a difference for you. Debbie was very flexible, evaluated my student and assured me what was needed. She made my child feel very comfortable and confident! I really appreciated the reading tips I received to help him at home on our own.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I am qualified and skilled to teach and or tutor in Elementary (K-6th) because I am a certified (K-6th) Elementary teacher. I have 5 years teaching experience and I love to work with students who struggle in a specific subject or area to help make the difference for them. My heart to make a difference for others is the reason I choose teaching as my profession.
My teaching approach to those who are struggling with math is to be sure you have the basic math concepts learned such as a good foundation in third grade skills and beyond. Math is like building a house. You must have a good foundation, then you can not succeed as you advance. Also, a person who struggles, must put in the study and practice time for themselves as well.
I am a certified elementary teacher specializing in Early Childhood. I have taught Pre-School, Kindergarten, and First Grade all of which require a hands on working knowledge of how to teach phonics.
I love to teach reading! I enjoy teaching phonics and how to learn to read. I also would enjoy teaching reading comprehension. Both are very important skills to succeed in life. I have the education, skill, experience to help you with anything related to reading.
