Concordia University (Master's)
If you, like me, find public schools abhorrent and need to remedy or balance any of the mediocrity being pushed on your child in those unfortunate settings, look no further! I teach from a traditional perspective. I have a bachelors in history from U.T. Austin, a M.Ed. from Concordia University, and have taught 1st through 3rd grader for the last two years in an excellent private school.
I have experience working with top students and those who need a little more encouragement to learn. My experience as a teacher and graduate student has taught me to effectively instruct student in grammar, history, economics, music, choreography, writing (composition and short story), public speaking, and even PE. Whatever the subject, I have almost always found a way to get through to children. My favorite thing about teaching is always seeing the pride that a student earns after finally "getting it." In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I've worked as a trainer, participated in triathlons, and maintained a high level of fitness all of my life. I have also acted as a p.e. teacher the last two years.
I studied Aikido for six years and kung fu for two. I have a firm understanding of body mechanics and can share rudimentary self-defense techniques.
I have worked with students for the past two years who have actively completed in speech competitions. I focus on fluency, articulation, scanning, gesturing, confidence, and projection. I have generally been successful in drastically improving their public speaking ability.
