The thing I want most out of any tutoring experience is to know that I have helped students reach their full potential. Each student is a unique person who needs an opportunity to learn in their own way. Most schools don't allow for individual learning styles, which can overwhelm a lot of students. I know this from experience, and hope I can bridge that gap in the learning process of each student I teach.
I recently graduated from the University of Utah, earning two Bachelor of Science degrees. I was a very involved teaching assistant for two semesters of undergraduate genetics classes, and have a great ability to recognize how people communicate and think. This has greatly helped me to be able to customize the way I teach. My students consider me to be very approachable, and my one on one tutoring sessions with them gave them the deep understanding of subject matter they needed to excel. I have also mentored refugee youth and young adult programs, helping with their schoolwork and other daily tasks.
I specialize in tutoring algebra, ACT math, biology, chemistry, and ACT science. As a tutor, my biggest goal is to keep students engaged, while not overwhelmed. I have a great love of the subjects I teach, and I enjoy bringing some of that out in my students as well. I once had a professor tell me that you can't hate something you're good at, so if you determine to become good at something you hate you'll have no choice but to like it. After struggling with math myself in my earlier years, this could not be more true.
I learned math in a very simple way that focused on the basics. I don't need to use large, intimidating numbers to make a point about a method. I genuinely care about the needs of each student, and use a variety of styles to accommodate each one.
I love science. I recently completed degrees in both Chemistry and Biology. I have experience as a teaching assistant and tutor in both subjects, and have successfully given students the confidence to believe in themselves and reach their academic goals.
I hold myself to the same high standard as my students, and encourage constant feedback. I want students to be comfortable enough with me to let me know when something doesn't make sense so that we can make the connection in a different way that will. I want every session to be a positive and productive experience.

Second lesson and my daughter seems to be gaining confidence. Very good at adapting to student needs. Excellent tutor! Highly recommended.
Nicole provided a great first lesson with my son - geometry and biology. I think he is feeling more confident already regarding upcoming tests and assignments.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I am highly qualified to tutor genetics because I received an A in my undergraduate genetics class. The following two semesters, I was a teaching assistant for two different professors in the subject. I also spent a year working in a lab focused on genetic speciation, performing genetic crosses and gaining intimate knowledge of genetics work.
I would make a good tutor for this subject because I have taken college level courses in nutrition, and have extensive knowledge of biochemistry, which directly pertains to nutrition. I do a lot of personal research as well, as I am an endurance athlete. Any research that I look into for my personal advancements is backed by science and medicine, not fad diets.
I am a chemistry major at the University of Utah, and am almost completed with my biochemical emphasis which focuses largely on organic chemistry. I have taken 2 semesters of organic chemistry as well as 3 organic lab courses. I did well in all of these classes, most recently finishing Organic Chemistry 2 with an A.
