Reading and Writing are essential skills to be successful in school. As a teacher, I am passionate about both! I have been teaching high school literature and composition for about 10 years. I have taught IB Literature and been trained in both IB and AP programs.
With years of experience in the classroom (and as a tutor) I recognize that students learn in different ways. As a tutor, I will help students discover strategies for reading and writing that work best for the individual. I will help students with homework as well as incorporate supplemental materials in improve comprehension, analysis, vocabulary, and composition skills. Whatever your grade level, (6-12+), I will focus my instruction on your needs and interests.
As a recent transplant to Austin, Texas (from Hawaii) I look forward to learning more about the curriculum being taught and will do my best to adjust my instruction and teaching style to match. I am open to feedback from students and parents and enjoy the interaction of face-to-face instruction. I am open to conducting lessons at a student's home or a public location.
I have my MEd in Post Secondary Education, English Language and Literature and I have my teaching license in Hawaii and Nevada. In addition, I have completed certificates for IBDP in English Language A, Literature, Theory of Knowledge and Extended Essay. I have also attended training at numerous AP Conferences. I have taught English as a Foreign Language in Spain and Hawaii (Japanese University).

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
