I have more than 20 years' experience as an educator and for the past five years have worked both one on one and with small groups of students as a tutor to preschool through middle school-aged students. In 2011, I completed my Master's degree in Education, specializing in working with students experiencing challenges in learning to read and write at the same rate as their peers. I have worked with students with a variety of issues that sometimes make it more difficult for them to learn. These include dyslexia, ADHD, anxiety and other emotional issues.
I specialize in teaching Reading with an emphasis on Phonemic Awareness, Phonics, Vocabulary, Fluency and Comprehension (the five essential components of reading development set forth in the No Child Left Behind Act). I have an in-depth knowledge and understanding of each of these elements, and I am able to provide student’s with instruction specific to the areas in which they are in the most need of improvement.
I have earned both a Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education and a Master's Degree in Education with a Reading Specialization. I am certified to teach Grades 1-8, Language Arts and English as a Second Lanugage. I have worked as a private tutor, Pre-K teacher, Spanish teacher and a substitute teacher for Kindergarten through 8th grade. In addition, I have been a volunteer in multiple educational and religious education settings.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
