Texas State University - San Marcos (ECE -6th with ESL)
My name is Angelica, and I am a certified educator specializing in Early Childhood through 6th grade. I received my B.S. from Texas State University in late 2012, and began working for the Meadows Center for Preventing Educational Risk at UT Austin in November of 2012. MCPER is an educational research organization that works specifically in the areas of reading, language arts and history, creating interventions to serve ELLs and low income students. With MCPER I have been lucky to work with all ages ranging from K-12. Most recently I have been tutoring small groups of students in 4th and 5th grade working on reading comprehension and grammar.
As far as my personal teaching style, I believe that each child is different and that no one "cookie cutter" methodology works for all students. Each student should be provided with the type of instruction specific to their educational needs, and which also allows for exploration and learning beyond what's written in a lesson. I believe that children learn best in small group or individual environments, and I have witnessed first hand how beneficial this can be for a struggling learner, both for learning the material at hand and also for their confidence in themselves as learners.
From the time I was a child myself, I have known that I have a special bond with and love of children. For me, there's nothing that makes me happier than knowing that I imparted even a smidgen of knowledge in a child. I love children and enjoy working with them, taking my responsibilities very seriously. Hi There!

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have completed a B.S. in ECE-6th, with an additional certification for ESL. I also currently hold a valid Texas teaching certification until 2018. Since 2012, I have worked for an educational research organization that operates out of the University of Texas at Austin, working with students from grades K-12.
