About Cantrell

I have worked as a supplemental math instructor and math tutor for the University of Texas at Austin. I also worked as an independent private tutor for elementary and junior high school and high school students. My degree plan when attending UT included a minor in math. In total, I have instructed students in math for five years.

Making a success of any challenging subject involves the effort of seeking proper assistance and making good use of valuable resources. My experiences in providing quality instruction to students from elementary to college level have helped me to be adaptable at meeting students' varying academic needs. One important lesson that I've learned is that helping students to relax when facing a subject that causes a measure of anxiety makes for an easier and more enjoyable learning experience. I work hard to help students to relax, gain confidence in their ability and develop greater ability.

My main goal with each student is to patiently aide the student in reaching his or her goals. WyzAnt is an excellent place to seek assistance an I hope you view my service as a valuable resource.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Bible Studies

I have been teaching the Bible to students of various ages and backgrounds sense 2003. I taught the Bible in the Karen and Karenni languages for two years. I have used several methods. One is to use a Bible study aid which focuses on specific topics and contains scriptures that address the topic. After considering a paragraph in the publication I ask the student questions about the subject an how the scriptures relate.

The other method is to help students to reason on a particular subject that is of interest to them by directing the student to what the Bible has to say on the subject. Sometimes reference materials other than the Bible are used to support the scriptures in their historical and scientific accuracy.

Tax Preparation

I have prepared my personal income taxes via the paper form for many years. During the 2016 tax season I volunteered to prepare income tax returns for individuals in the community. I received a VITA tax preparer certificate through Foundation Communities, a non-profit organization. I am currently enrolled in a tax course through Liberty Tax Service in order to stay current on tax laws and preparation procedures.
