About Shanshan

Bio

My name is Shanshan and I am excited to meet you!

I absolutely love language, dance, and teaching. I received two bachelor's degrees, one in Dance and one English, from Inner Mongolia University in China. I then moved to South Korea, where I studied Korean for 1.5 years to gain proficiency to enter graduate school. When I met my husband, we then came to the United States where I later obtained my MS in Physical Education. I feel that I am so lucky to have been able to obtain degrees...

I feel that I am so lucky to have been able to obtain degrees and experience in the areas I most enjoy and am passionate about! It is this joy and passion for learning that makes me a great teacher and helps me to connect with others who are looking to achieve their educational goals.

I find that my students and I enjoy the learning process most by ensuring that each topic is challenging enough to ensure progress without being overwhelming. One way to bring about challenge without overly intense content is to have real world application. A visit to a Chinese market for a Mandarin Chinese learner or an intermediate ballroom competition for a ballroom dancer are ways to apply concepts learned. These events are never spontaneous, but are intentionally agreed upon and worked toward as goals.

To ensure that progress is being made and all parties are satisfied, I enjoy and value constant feedback. I implement this through the use of written surveys and direct communication. I want to ensure that each and every topic has been of utmost quality and beneficial to all parties.

My current policy is to give a minimum of 2 hours cancellation notice. I do my best to accommodate make-up classes as they fit the schedules of all parties. These policies are very flexible and can be adjusted and agreed upon at the outset of communication.

Regarding location, I am extremely flexible. In the past, I have nearly always accommodated my students by meeting them in a location of their choosing; however, other locations can be found on an "as needed" basis. I have never had any issue with finding a comfortable learning environment for any of my students.

In closing, I find that the tutoring process is most beneficial and enjoyable when teacher professionalism is paramount and assumed, leaving individual needs and goals to be accommodated for in a comfortable and goal driven way. I look forward to meeting you, learning your goals and dreams, and working with you to make them a reality.

I received my undergraduate degree in Dance which included a specialization in all 10 forms of international ballroom. After moving to the United States, I worked as a ballroom dance instructor at a dance studio for one year. It was here that I was introduced to the director of the ballroom program at the University of New Mexico (UNM). I then went on to work as a ballroom instructor at UNM for another two years.
