Teaching science and math brings me great joy and purpose. After 8 years of teaching in independent schools in Texas and California, I am certain that teaching is my calling in life. I enjoy helping students to build the cognitive scaffolding that they need to support their understanding and application of new ideas and methods. It is a privilege to witness the "aha" and "I did it" moments that will propel them towards greater success in their classes.
I would be pleased to help you or your loved one work towards achieving your educational goals in studying mathematics (high school levels, including calculus), chemistry, and especially physics. I have experience teaching AP Physics, and I can also tutor AP Chemistry and Calculus AB or BC.
I require that students provide information for me via email at least 24 hours prior to the tutoring session regarding the topics that they would like to review. Sharing access to worksheets or other class materials prior to the session is also strongly encouraged. Why do I ask this? Students who simply show up and expect help on some questions or to be "taught" a topic on the spot will not get the best that I have to offer! A good teacher is always thoroughly prepared before teaching class by reviewing materials and carefully thinking through the types of questions and activities that will prompt students to deeply understand a subject, and, more importantly, to remember and be able to effectively apply what they have learned. This is kind of teacher (tutor) that I would like to be for you. Teaching science and math brings me great joy and purpose. As a beginning violin student, I've learned so much and have made great progress taking lessons from Rachel. She was always prepared, made very effective use of the lesson time, and pushed me forward at the right pace.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have played the violin for 27 years and the viola for 18 years. For the past 3 years, I have served as the principal violist for a Community Orchestra. I would be interested in teaching beginner students on either the violin or viola.
