About Kacie

Learning is a very personal experience, and as such I feel that it is best to tailor my tutoring style to fit the student's needs. That said, you really have to mesh well with your tutor, and I may not be the right fit for everyone. I know that there are many learning styles, and my own varies by subject. I also know that learning can be very frustrating; I found myself on more than on occasion feeling like the teacher wasn't answering the question I was trying to ask and I didn't know how to rephrase it. So, I try to listen to my tutees, and really ensure that I am answering the question they are really asking.

I began my tutoring career by tutoring friends in my university classes; I discovered that as much as it helped them it also helped me. Then I realized that I absolutely love tutoring. When I discovered that my university had a peer tutoring program, I put in an application and couldn't wait for an interview. At that point I was hired by my university to tutor Organic Chemistry and Physics. There is truly nothing better than to do what I love every day and seeing the proverbial light bulb light up someone's face. I have spent approximately 3 years tutoring peers in Biology, Chemistry, Genetics, Algebra, a little bit of Calculus, and Physics.

Onto my background, I have most of a bachelor's degree in Chemistry, with an emphasis on Organic, that I would some day like to complete. With that degree plan, I have had to take basic Chemistry and Biology classes, of which I tested out of via AP tests. I have taken multiple Organic Chemistry courses, as well as Analytical and Physical Chemistries. Naturally, I have also enjoyed classes in Physics, both Algebra and Calculus based (although, I don't tutor Physics at the college level, just high school). Lastly, I had the pleasure of taking Calculus 1 all the way through Calculus 3. Throughout my time as a student, I was also fortunate to spend some time babysitting my friend's kids, and I tried to have many teachable moments. I am very comfortable with High School aged students all the way into college and beyond.

Please contact me if you have any questions, concerns, or to schedule an appointment with me!

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Algebra 1

I have taken math classes through Calculus 3, and was in advanced math classes throughout high school and college.

Algebra 2

I have been in accelerated math classes my entire life, and have also taken all the way through calculus 3.

ASVAB

I have taken the practice portions of the ASVAB and did not miss a single question. Also, I used to work with the local army recruiting company, so I am familiar with the process of enlisting.

Calculus

I've taken accelerated (PAP, honors) math courses from pre-algebra through to calculus 3.

Chemistry

I majored in Chemistry in college, and have taken through physical chemistry. General chemistry is the basis of your entire chemical and biological education. Also, I took AP chemistry in high school; I did take the AP test for it, and was awarded all of my general chemistry college credit (8 hrs worth).

Macintosh

I have been working on Macintosh computers since 2005 when I had my first iBook. Since then I have had 2 MacBook Pros, an iPad, and several iPhones (and 2 iPods, not that anyone uses those anymore). I usually troubleshoot my own technical issues, and several other's also. My first full time job also included use of a Mac. Also, I got my dog a free treat the other day, because I was able to troubleshoot the store's Mac problem for her. She was unable to get the computer to eject a disc. I have been using Macs for so long, that I can't even remember how many versions of their operating system I have seen. Lastly, I used to play Oregon Trail on a Mac. Apparently, I still can, but I'm not sure if they kept the original graphics.

Organic Chemistry

I have actually taken several iterations of this class, and fell in love with it. At Youngstown State University I earned an A and then a B in Organic I and II respectively. I earned an A in Intermediate Organic, and I was on my way to Advanced Organic Lab when I left Ohio. I also began undergraduate research in an Organic lab where I was trying to use an organometallic catalyst to build a piano stool molecule which I could then use to hopefully activate carbon dioxide into forming carbon-carbon bonds.

Physics

I've taken high school and college level physics, both algebra and calculus based, for mechanics and electricity/ magnetism.

Precalculus

I tutor many students in precalculus as it is an integral (calculus pun) stepping stone to calculus, though it seems scary at first glance. I took, and excelled in, precalculus before moving on to calculus 1, 2, and 3.

Trigonometry

I've taken PAP/ AP/ honors math courses from prealgebra through to calculus 3. Though trigonometry might be my favorite math class to tutor!

Amazing rapport with tutees!

Kacie knows her stuff! She explains information in lay-terms and definitely makes sure you understand before going on. She replies very quickly to messages and has great availability. I was hesitant about online tutoring at first but it is definitely worth a try.
