University of Texas, Austin (Psychology)
I am a 23-year-old graduate from the University of Texas at Austin and looking to become an elementary school tutor. I have extensive experience mentoring, coaching, and teaching children since I was 15 years old. I majored in Psychology, specializing in Developmental Psychology, and have been working in the Cognition, Culture, and Development Lab at UT for two years, exploring learning mechanisms of children between the ages of 3-12. Last spring, I was the Early Learners Intern at the Thinkery (Austin Children's Museum), researching and developing curriculum to conduct workshops with children and their parents. I am currently a summer camp counselor for a Martial Arts school just in the afternoons. I love working with kids and believe that the most valuable learning experiences are created when children are engaged, relaxed, and enjoying what they are doing. Establishing a positive relationship between child and tutor is crucial to the experience and I make sure such a relationship is established in order for the greatest amount of learning to occur. I also believe in the value of a solid, open relationship with the parents. It is so important to make sure everyone is always on the same page so your child can continue to learn and excel even when I am not around. I will keep parents updated on their child's progress, talents, particular skills, and struggles. I am open to answering any questions you may have concerning my background, experience, goals, or techniques. Hello!

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
