My experience teaching and tutoring students of all ages in a wide variety of subjects can be your advantage! An experienced classroom teacher, I'm certified in Texas to teach all-levels English as a Second Language, general subjects in 4th through 8th grades, and I've successfully collaborated with special education colleagues on many occasions to assist students with learning disabilities and other needs. As Texas requires rigorous federal background checks for educator certification, you are assured that my background is clear.
Please know in advance that my travel radius is firm at 20 miles, centered around Pflugerville, Texas. I will avoid driving more than 20 miles from my house to deliver tutoring, and, due to traffic at certain times around the Austin area, your house might be closer than 20 miles - yet too far away for me to drive there to tutor you. However, I am happy to offer a discount rate to students who will travel to my house for tutoring. If you live 20 miles or more away from me, or if you live south of FM2222, and you are not happy to make the drive to the Pflugerville area, then please do not request tutoring from me.
I will accept online students only for oral English language development (verbal ESL) or for a large or lengthy writing project (details below). Please do not contact me for other online assistance.
I have previously and will always enjoy assisting with special writing projects, such as a capstone paper, term paper, thesis, or dissertation. I can get involved early in your project to help you get organized, to streamline your work, and to support you as your proofreader, research design consultant, and general sounding board to help with brainstorming. Working together from the beginning of your project, we can make your effort more efficient and effective. Feel free to contact me early in your semester, so we can plan your strategy and prepare to perform your best work! Home-schoolers might benefit from this kind of specialized work, as well. I would enjoy working with home-schooled students of any age to enrich their learning experiences by producing diverse, relevant research projects.
I understand students at every stage of development, I'm comfortable and effective teaching anyone, and I'm skilled at integrating broad content knowledge & assessment skills seamlessly to meet students' academic needs. Though I have extensive experience in middle school classrooms, I have taught many subjects at every grade level, and I excel at helping students of all ages with mathematics (simple arithmetic through geometry, trigonometry, college algebra, probability/statistics) and writing (elementary essays to college & professional research papers). My reading and science instruction are also excellent, and I specialize in integrated curriculum projects (project-based learning).
With earned bachelor's and master's degrees, and broad study in English & language arts, social studies, history, mathematics, science, speech, the fine arts, general curriculum & instructional design, child development, educational assessment, applied linguistics, reading & writing instruction, special education, technology integration, research design & analysis, statistics, economics, psychology, philosophy, and German, I find that only very specialized subjects are outside my experience. I'm an all-purpose tutor to meet all your learning needs!
Kyle has provided examples of their subject expertise by answering 120 questions submitted by students on Wyzant’s Ask an Expert.
From the day we met Kyle, I've witnessed his effort to get to know my son and how his mind operates. Starting with the first session, he was able to get my son to engage with him and focus on his homework. After only a few sessions, Kyle has determined not only areas where my son can improve, but has created strategies for my son to follow to make those changes. Having Kyle's help has turned homework time from 6-8 hours a week to about 2.5 hours a week. Amazing. My son struggles with ADHD, Dyslexia, and Asperger's, so it's a special person who will take the time to get to know the bright child he is and offer guidance specific to his needs and abilities. I'm a fan!Theresa, 81 lessons with Kyle

Kyle is Great!
Kyle tutored my oldest son for SAT prep. We decided to work with Kyle because he was one of the few tutors that could work with him in both Math and English concepts. In each session he helped with my son identify and fill in knowledge gaps while also giving SAT test strategies and pointers. My son ultimately did great the second time he sat for the SAT. Now Kyle is working with my youngest son and I'm confident that we'll have similar results!Serenity, 27 lessons with Kyle
Knowledgeable and patient
Kyle showed me how to understand my math assignment in a simple way. I feel more confident going forward. I look forward in working with Kyle in the future. I was stressed and frustrated with my math homework before Kyle taught how to do the problems. After Kyle left I was able to complete my homework.Roberta, 2 lessons with Kyle

Highly recommend - very proactive with lessons and great with my ADHD daughter
My daughter was really struggling with math and has ADHD so her attention span and organizational skills are a bit to be desired...from the first lesson, Kyle was able to connect well with her, adjust his lesson according to her deficits, and do so in a way which worked well for a child with ADHD. He explained concepts in different ways to ensure she'd understand, he brought his own materials, and worked with tests and homework she had from school. He also worked with her on organization. He was very engaging, and did not need me (or her) to tell him specifically what to do--rather, he worked with her to figure out what needed help and stepped right in. My daughter's grade in math has improved significantly. I wouldn't hesitate to call Kyle if your child needs math help!Penelope, 4 lessons with Kyle
