New York University (Environmental Studie)
Yale University (Master's)
A lifelong love of science and reading has led me to view tutoring not as a job, but an enjoyable pastime. I have had mixed results with tutors back in my high school days, and strive now to create a positive, interactive environment for the student. It is important to me that the student is not simply memorizing facts or providing rote answers, but rather that he or she is able to find a personal interest in the subject of choice. My goal as a tutor is to help the student find the key by which to engage with the subject matter, so that studying will become less of a chore, and more of a beneficial - and even enjoyable - activity.
I attended an International Baccalaureate high school, and excelled at both the AP and IB tests. I graduated summa cum laude from New York University with a major in Environmental Studies and Biology. While in college, I worked as a tutor for my fellow students for two years at the NYU Learning Center. After I received my Bachelor's, I spent a year working as a teaching assistant at an American university, the "World's Honors College," in the Middle East. I just graduated with my Master's of Environmental Science from Yale University, and was also employed as a teaching assistant to an undergraduate Biology course.
I am generally flexible with my time, and appreciate at least 2 hours for a cancellation notice. I have transport and am willing to travel to your home to conduct the tutoring lesson. As far as the lesson itself, I hope to work with you to design a plan that is in the best interest of the student. Whether that means assigning homework or interactive activities is contingent upon the individual student and his or her needs.
I look forward to hearing from you and having the opportunity to assist you in your academic pursuits! In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
