About Matthew

I received a B.S. and M.S. degree from Rutgers University in physics/astrophysics. After working as a researcher in astronomy and particle physics, I moved to Austin to complete a PhD in theoretical particle physics. I currently teach a course in physics at UT and have many years of experience teaching at the college level and in private tutoring. I am available for tutoring in physics and math at the college or advanced high school level. At this time, I am only available for students who can meet on the UT campus. Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Differential Equations

An understanding of differential equations is required for physics. My primary qualification is my status as a PhD candidate in theoretical physics, in which differential equations are used heavily.

Great tutor that really knew his subject

Matthew tutored me in algebra-based physics at the college level. My high school education in mathematics and the sciences was not the best, and when it came to physics I felt hopelessly lost in lecture. When I got tutoring from Matthew, that all changed. He re-introduced the topics to me in a manner that made them not only easy to understand, but also easy to connect to other topics so that I cou
