Wheaton College (Communications)
I graduated from a liberal arts school, Wheaton College, and I also played sports in college. I have experience in both education and athletics and can help tutor in more than one subject. Being from a liberal arts school means that I have studied language, history, science, philosophy and many other courses besides those specifically pertinent to my degree (Communications).
I strongly believe that education should be interactive. Instead of having one specific way of teaching I believe that every student/child is unique and I alter my teaching style to fit each individual. I have taught 4th-5th graders at Summer Camps and Vacation Bible School over the years. More recently, I have been a substitute teacher in the Austin District where I taught in grades Elementary through High School. I also taught in the special needs department where I learned that students need to be taught in ways specific to their learning styles.
In the past year I have been a 6th grade basketball coach and was a collegiate athlete on the golf and lacrosse teams. I played competitive soccer through high school and was trained professionally. I have learned many things athletically through the years and would be able to offer help and personal training in these sports. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I grew up getting private basketball lessons and then went on to play high school basketball. I was a 6th grade basketball coach last fall/winter.
I have grown up in the Church and have gone to many Bible camps. I also studied theology in college as a minor, so I took many classes on the Scriptures and history of the Church.
When I was young, I was taught by a macrobiotic cook. I have been cooking ever since and have taught private Italian cooking classes in the past for teenage girls.
I have been a substitute teacher for elementary-age students, and I am qualified to teach any subject to elementary age students as a college graduate.
I have been professionally trained in muscle strengthening and training. I have also been coached and trained in sports such as golf, soccer, tennis, basketball, lacrosse and swimming.
I was a collegiate golfer and have been playing competitively since I was eight years old. I have been taught professionally and have placed in many tournaments throughout the years.
