Grammar

I was recently tested here as a refresher and made a near perfect score. Grammar, sentence structure and reading all go hand in hand. I'm an avid reader, and for me grammar is a natural like correctly spelled words. I was an English Minor at The University of Texas (in Austin), and I graduated at the top 10% of my high school class. I was hired to design the curriculum for NO CHILD LEFT BEHIND for a grant that was awarded to Ridgecrest Elementary, the largest elementary school in SBISD. This was created for low income Hispanic students to learn English. Grammar was a vital part of their lessons.

Proofreading

As I previously stated, my background is English; studying it in college, teaching it, tutoring it, working with students from ages K - Sr in high school. I’m going to help you with proofreading by explaining, not memorization (or Grammarly, which isn’t always correct). English is a vast language, but when you’ve learned how to speak it correctly, it’s exciting because it’s a reflection of your efforts and your intelligence (you’ll be noticed). In just two months, her mom saw a positive increase in her reading and her self-confidence (I believe the two go hand-in-hand when I approach it). She was pleased when she had her read to her and her husband, and she even wanted to take some books on the family cruise they took (that's why we ended our time). I have 5 years of tutoring experience; my best friend was a head injury survivor, and I helped her daughter with her homework from age K-4 while she attended Kinkaid. My friend died 3 years ago, and her daughter is now a sophomore at Wake Forest! I also developed the curriculum for NO CHILD LEFT BEHIND - it was awarded to the largest elementary school in the Spring Branch Independent School District, Houston, Texas. It was the most rewarding teaching job I ever held. These children learned English with our help; I was the only English speaking teacher, and I had two Spanish speaking assistants. The children, ages 2-6, thrived!

Cooking

My resume reflects experience as a Private Chef, owner of my catering business, management experience in fine dining restaurants, kitchen experience in some of those restaurants and moreover, all were some of the Top Chefs/Restauranteurs in Houston. I have always loved to cook. I had the magical opportunity of meeting Julia Child and having dinner with her and my ex-husband, who is an accomplished chef. While operating my catering company, 5 senses catering, I took on every role; menu planning/meeting with client, shopping/prep, cooking, delivery, billing. My largest party was for a doctor's office opening for 80. My specialty is my pate. I'm looking to market it in the near future. While teaching preschool, I really enjoyed incorporating it in to my curriculum. I would have a great time cooking with/instructing all ages.
